The RN just gave Q327 an EC1 for flash flood warning between MP 104 and 122. That’s approximately Sawyer to Michigan City.

Questions: a) What does this mean for the train? Restricted speed? b) How does the dispatcher know of heavy rain here? To they have weather monitoring stations or do they use 3rd party data, e.g. National Weather Service? c) Are there any features of the tracks in this area that make them susceptible to flooding?

During a flash flood warning, trains are limited to 40 mph.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Southern Berrien County, and I believe the dispatchers get alerts from the NWS when there are any types of warnings.
There was a washout near Sawyer in 1996 over a creek there, and they do cross the Galien River in New Buffalo, and Trail Creek near Michigan City.

NB coal train just cleared Middle River. CSX 763 + 378 + 272 + 130 loads. DEEX marks on some cars so I'm assuming it's going to St. Clair.

Does LSRC take the train North to Flint and hand back off to CSX or does CSX have rights still?
