Lumber business is way down all over :(
Nothing to TC in almost a month.
My family is building a new home here in TC (previous house burnt down last year) and they are having much trouble buying lumber of all sizes. Menards etc. are out of most of it, I sent him to Northern Lumber and they are only selling to their regular contractors. They told him to bring in approved building drawings to get in line for some lumber. So I don't think the business is down, it's because of supply lines. Northern gets all their lumber from Amerihart so the jam up is down state or out west somewhere.

Biewer in lake city seems to be having trouble getting logs right now. They've been out of poplar for a couple weeks. They aren't over stocked with pine either. I also see they're almost out of wood chips which go to that board plant in grayling. Not sure how McBain looks. I havent been there in a while. Through this whole thing they haven't lost more than a weeks worth of production days.

Posting in the right thread this time...

Yesterday, at 9:30, 395 and 396 took off from Cadillac headed Northbound. At 10:45, I saw them stationary at M-113 in Walton putting some cars into the siding there. I then went home until around 17:30, when I went out to the property near 22 road in Manton. At 19:45, 396 lead 395 and the cars from the siding and Petoskey slowly past me, throwing off some amazing echos. I'll most certainly return there to film again.

Anybody see any lumber sitting around waiting to come up to Traverse City? We could use it.

Sorry if this isn't what the thread is for. My 4-year-old son is obsessed with trains. We live in Mount Pleasant so we often go to the tracks there and watch for the train. We've been able to catch it twice at the Jordan road crossing. We'd love to catch it at Island Park sometime but we haven't been able to. Does anyone have an estimate of when and what days we might be able to catch that?

As of late, trains through Mt P have been after sundown. After the track work is over (sometime this fall/winter?) the schedule should return to normal, with the Northbound around 11a-1p and the returning southbound around 1-3pm nearly every weekday. Hope this helps.

They have very friendly crews that will wave or give extra honks too.

There are two Facebook groups dedicated to GLC just do a search for em and you’ll find em.

We were able to wave the one day and be waved out the window for my son. It was pretty awesome. We take evening walks around sunset but no luck lately. Sounds like they're going even later though?
