Plymouth Sub Train History, 2016-2020

After CSX messed around with their 28 hour scheduling system wide, using a different prefix letter for each day of the week, on the Plymouth sub, Trains 334-335 were removed on 2-25.16. By May 1, CSX started running a D-906 job between Beck Road Plymouth and at least Lansing, shuttling the old 335 cars to Grand Rapids that were now being sat off at Plymouth by a Detroit job. This caused major congestion with blocked crossings in Plymouth for a year.

On 4-1-17, D706-705 jobs were created to run from Lansing to Toledo to avoid the Plymouth congestion. Less than a month later, on 4-26-17, D-701-702 jobs were created to run from Grand Rapids to Flint, one in each direction every other day. These were the first freights out of GRP to Flint in 17 years, These jobs, when started, ended the D-706-705 jobs The Flint jobs lasted only until 6-23-17. Less than two months later, Q334-335 returned from Toledo to Grand Rapids, A month later, these trains were replaced by trains Q384-385 which were now Selkirk to Grand Rapids trains. These ran until 5-17-18 when they were replaced by trains Q328-327 between GRP and Detroit which were the first freights running to Detroit since January 22 2011. By July 1, 2018, Q-327 out of Detroit became Q-329.

And now its what goes around comes around as of today there is no freights left on the Plymouth Sub again, and nothing but Locals. At least between Lansing & Plymouth.

Seen this movie before. Every time they try to run stuff thru Toledo things get clogged up there. When business gets back to normal, they will change back again by the fall.

The D906's were only when they absolutely had to run them, too. D707 and D708 were saddled with doing all of the switching and customer work in addition to forwarding the traffic between Grand Rapids and Plymouth. It didn't work very well!

Correct. While these runs, either out of Lansing or out of Toledo made 20 trips in 23 days, it was important to include them here because of the purpose they were intended for. They were all very long in length with many cars. 1st run was actually on April 3rd, 2017, last run April 25th, 2017.
