I don't think 4540 was retired, it just says it was repainted after rebuild....

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.

CSX Locomotive Roster Update As of 01 December 2019

Welcome to this month’s CSX Locomotive Roster Update! This update covers all changes discovered since 01 November, 2019.

This report represents to the best of our knowledge, the working CSX locomotive roster. There are always changes we are not yet aware of – if you think you’ve spotted a new repaint, let us know!

In this update: rebuilds only! No new retirements, but now the rebuilds are rolling out of both Huntington (SD70ACs) and Erie (CM44ACs). Be on the lookout for those, both models look sharp! Of note, one of the SD70ACs rebuilt was previously in YN2, dropping the EMD YN2 count to just 17!

Hey guys, new member here out of northern VA, been a railfan since I grew up next to the NS main in Springfield, VA in the 90's.

I'm looking for any info (beyond this fantastic breakdown of CSX's power you guys do monthly) about which routes still use old YN2 power the most. I've been trying to shoot a YN2 leader for a couple years now with no success so far (shot 1 in Ohio on the Garrett sub in Defiance but the lighting was poor), and I feel like I'm running out of opportunities. Been railfanning them in sw VA on the James River sub, went down to Waycross 2 weeks ago and had no luck there, and the trip last year to Defiance didn't help either. Any help is appreciated.

Seems like most of the few remaining YN2 EMDs are in yard and local service in the northeast. Your best bet for a YN2 leader is holding out for an AC4400 leader or one of the few Dash 8s or Dash 9s that isn't in storage or sold.

Appreciate your help SD80MAC.

Another question if I may. I was planning a trip to Louisville for MATS at the end of March but that got cancelled, so I have a rental car and a few days to head out from northern VA. What's the better move, heading north (to PA or possibly upstate NY) or heading southwest to sw VA/Kentucky/Tennessee?

Also any concerns about the coronavirus impacting rail ops? Seems like freight might be on the downturn, although I haven't heard it's impacted yet.

I’m aware thanks to this thread :D that’s why I clarified.

Does that also include the amount in storage?

All of the CW40-9s and CW40-8s are now in or headed to storage. CSX is pretty much down to CW44AC/Hs, ES44AHs, ET44AHs, SD70ACs, SD40-3s, SD40-2s, GP40-3s, GP40-2s, GP38-3s, and GP38-2s with a few oddball exceptions like end cab switchers and SD40E3s.
