IORY Customer Lists & Locomotive Roster

Unread post by NS3322 »

I spent some time over the last few weeks creating customers lists in the Railroadfan Wiki for every subdivision on the I&O. How did I do? (Please go easy on me since I am unfamiliar with most of the "territory" that the I&O runs through).

Also, I am having trouble with the locomotive roster, since locomotives seem to bounce between the CIND, CFE, and I&O.

At a glance it looks very good NS3322. I'll take a look at my DT&I Sub notes later and share any information.
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

Yikes. I'm gonna stick with the DT&I North/Middle here because that's what I know best.

No interchange with NS in Delta, nor is their interchange with CSX in Hamler, and lastly no interchange in Leipsic with either NS/CSX.

As for customers...

Add MetalX in Delta. Moving south, no service to Poet at this time. Patrick only gets plastic pellets in covered hoppers, no boxcars. I don't know what the hell Menlo is but it's not a customer for us. Wright Distribution hasn't been an active customer in years. Troyer gets loads of plastic, flaxseed, steel bars and sometimes urea. The "ag transload" I think you're talking about is the Troyer East track that comes off the east lead behind the old office. Steel bars and urea there, everything else in the west track that comes off the main across the street.

Engines are shared between CIND/IORY. CFE has their own fleet but we have let them borrow power in the past. Off the top of my head, the I&O roster right now is as follows.

IORY 2100, 2101, 2102, 2103, 2104, 2109, 2134 (GP38-2)
IORY 3043 (GP40-2)
IORY 3472, 3488, 3489, 3491, 3492, 3493, 3494 (SD40-2)
IORY 4070, 4071, 4072 (SD40T-2)
IORY 4082, 4083, 4084, 4085 (SD40-2)
IORY 5007, 5011, 5012, 5013, 5014 (GP50)
IORY 5016, 5017 (SD50)
IORY 9400 (SD45T-2)
IORY 9500 (SD45R) - Dead and probably not being fixed this time
OHCR 4030 (SD40-2)

Brookville Line now ends just north of SR 46 two or three miles past Siemer /Whitewater Milling. Line is unused past Whitewater Milling to current end of in service track, held onto for future development. Line north of current end to Brookville is out of service and impassable - multiple washouts, couple bridges damaged or down, etc. Owens Corning switched to truck several years ago. Also, Siemer / Whitewater is a flour mill not a roofing plant.

Y@ - you forgot the queens of the fleet - the three CIND marked units. How could you forget the 2 gensets and the old Pirate that compose the cornerstones of the fleet - the very building blocks of your entire empire.

In Springfield, both Topre and Cohen Recycling use the same transload for their scrap shipments. Not sure about a steel transload overat Junction but I do know they load argon gas? and other liquids onto tanks.

Ah yes, I forgot the 2001/2002, probably because they’re worthless. The 2342 is over on the CF&E last I knew.

Yep, I spotted it at the Fort Wayne shops last Saturday.

Thank you all for the corrections!

I've completed most of the locomotive roster. Although, I am having trouble finding the previous histories of IORY GP38-2's 2100-2104, 2109 and SD40-2's 3489, 3491-3493.

The place in Springfield that gets loads of refrigerant gas is Superior Carriers and it’s right in the yard as far as I know.

IORY 2101-2103 are from CFE 3884, 3887, 3888, 3889

IORY 3489-3494 (no 3490 on OC) are ex HLCX

IORY 54 owned by Mennel Milling for the time being

Oasis- CBRT- also gets inbound lumber in boxcars and centerbeams

Mason- First 3 are NS customers. Contract lumber on are Mason Sub. Carter Lumber is a truss plant

Midland-

Pleasant Plains is closed. Received bird seed and stopped using rail before I&O.
Timber Tech-Azek- inbound pellets and talc and outbound loaded centerbeams of composite decking
Change all the Wash CH customers to Midland and not DT&I (even though the old B&O is now DT&I mileposts out there)
Baxla- never used rail was 84 Lumber and only got a couple of cars before closing. Last used to load a transformer

Logan Sub- Anchor shuttle ended last year.

Midland sub since your in the know about the I&O I have a question. The rail bridge at that goes over Madison Road at Kenwood Road in Cincinnati has been hit several times by large trucks over the years. The last two years it has been hit the most even by a concrete truck going 40 mph. Of course the way that bridge was built back in the day it doesn't budge.

There has been some ideas to do something to keep trucks from hitting the bridge and one idea was to dig Madison Road down two feet to a gradual dip this way trucks can get under the bridge without hitting it. This could become them a 15 foot high rail bridge. I heard today that that can;t happen because the rail company that owns that line said if the road is dug out on Madison Road the bridge would be unstable. I can't see that happening but that is what I was told. Who owns the rails the I&O as it was at one time B&O which became CSX.

You listed 4 locomotive numbers. Are you referring to the number series: IORY 2100-2103, or 2101-2104?

Any more information on these locomotives? I cannot seem to find their former HLCX numbers.

Darn! I was hoping to catch this train in the future. Any idea as to why it ended? Does the warehouse still ship/receive anything?

IORY 2100- CFE 3884
IORY 2101- CFE 3887
IORY 2102- CFE 3888
IORY 2103- CFE 3889

IORY 3488- HLCX 7014
IORY 3489- HLCX 7843
IORY 3491- HLCX 7180
IORY 3492- HLCX 7842
IORY 3493- HLCX 7860
IORY 3494- HLCX 6227

Anchor Shuttle stopped last year due to condition of the cars. G&W informed Anchor they were at their end of service life in 2012 and needed replaced with in 5 years. They did a quick patch repair on the cars at the end of 2012. G&W found replacement 86' cars for the shuttle back in 2014 and almost acquired them, but the owners of the Lancaster plant shut it down for about 6 weeks due to cash flow issues. Started back up and slowly the cars fell apart until last spring when instead of replacing the cars Anchor found a trucking company to pick up the work running from the plant to warehouse. There's several issues with replacing the cars- first and most importantly the loading area at the plant is set up for 86 ft cars. They tried shorter cars 50 and 60 ft, but it takes twice as long as each car has to be spotted separately. Anchor doesn't have the cash to rebuild that area. Since they almost burned G&W back in 2014 it's on Anchor to find replacement 86' cars or make the rebuild the loading dock for shorter cars. The truth of the matter is how much life is left in the plant all together. The owners have had issues with the debt and making a profit for years- along with paying RA and G&W on a timely fashion for switching both. Unless Anchor figures out a way to get help to pay for different cars and or redo the loading area at the plant, the shuttle is a neat 24 year experience of the past. The shuttle cars should all be down in Logan in the old yard waiting for scrapping.

I&O owns the bridge and tracks with CSX still owning the land underneath. I wouldn't hold my breath on anything changing.

Thank you so much!

Very interesting information on the Anchor Shuttle. It is too bad it will likely never run again. How many times a day did the train run? I will have to try to make it to Logan to see those ancient 86' cars in the future. Are both cabooses also in Logan?

Does the Brookville Sub use CIND power?
