Amtrak 370 on Grand Rapids, MI sub just past Zeeland, MI calling out a clear signal. The dispatcher mentioned something about an accident near the tracks on 120th Avenue so it seems like the train is a bit behind on schedule for this. Nothing from the defect detector on this line owned by CSX. Time currently is 11:27pm EDT

Trouble Getting Over The Road - Amtrak #355 departed Dearborn at 7:00 PM, 24" late. Arrived at Wayne Jct. at about 7:15 on Track 2. Stop signal displayed. Meanwhile #352 which left Ann Arbor at 6:48 approached Wayne Jct. on track 1 at restricted speed. Continued on Track 1 past Wayne at restricted speed. After #352 went by, #355 had to be talked past the stop indication and moved west on Track 2. I suspect signal trouble of some kind. #355 got out of Ann Arbor at 7:58 PM, 52" late. #352 left Dearborn at 7:45 PM, 35" late.

A really late 350 just crossed Caniff Street just north of Milwaukee Junction. P42DC 59 was leading, first two cars included an Amfleet I with ILHSR logo and a Horizon.

Other Amtrak's also late on Saturday. Amtrak #370 on 05/18 left Chicago 1'59" late, #354 53" late, and #364 2'43" late. Some type of disruption at CUS.

Amtrak 351 had a private dome car and open end business car on the head end of its train this morning departing Pontiac. It must have come in last night.

Private cars might be Charter Wire cars which were in Ann Arbor for a time. With Amtrak's new restrictive handling policy, it won't pick up cars at previous usual locations unless they are on a list so as not to delay trains enroute. Freight railroads will spot and pick up such cars and forward them to a location where Amtrak will add them to a train. Nothing like discouraging added revenue.

I don't blame Amtrak one bit for not wanting to delay a revenue train just to pick up someone's toys. The new policy makes sense to me!

Picking up those cars at stations where scheduled dwell time was minimal was causing all of the paying passengers to suffer delays. Is that desirable? Not for me.

Are any of the trains handling an extra coach or two during the Memorial Day holiday?
