Customer Lists

Unread post by chapmaja »

Does anyone have a list of customers for the AA and the GLC?

I haven't been on the southern end of the AA in several years (South of Dundee).

Dundee and north the only customers I know of are a plastic place in Dundee and the crude transload on the spur to the engine plant. Does the engine place get service anymore? North of that is the NS interchange in Milan and the GLC interchange in Osmer.

BTW: Yesterday Osmer had what appeared to be 1 plastics hopper, several grain style hoppers and a number of tank cars at the south end of the "old" siding. Nothing I could see on the north end of either siding.

MAC in Middleton also receives tanks of fertilizer, fertilizer in hopper's and Potash also. Every thing in Oakley is the Anderson's,they also get tanks of liquid fertilizer. Liquid in Ashley gets occasional boxcars. Mid Michigan Specialty Crops in Ithaca ship's out dry beans occasionally in boxcars.

I just created a GLC customer list. How did I do?
(I have slowly been creating and updating customer lists in the Wiki. So far I have done Michigan Southern, Indiana Northeastern, and now GLC).

There were hoppers on the spur closest to the building when I was there a couple weeks ago. These looked like they could have cement.

Should be done.... Toledo Blade contracted with the Detroit Media partnership back in 2014. Production moved to Sterling Heights then.

Temperance Yard: I know there is the Smuckers plant next to the yard that gets service, and the yard is used for what appears to be storage.

My question is when did the AA get a blue locomotive. On the Google maps image, there is a blue painted locomotive on the south end of Temperance Yard. I have never witnessed a blue locomotive on the AA before.

Likely GMTX 2230 which was(still is?) leased to the AA

"Temperance Yard: I know there is the Smuckers plant next to the yard that gets service, and the yard is used for what appears to be storage."

The Smucker plant was sold to an investment group last year. I'm not sure what product is made there. The adjacent Cheerios factory closed years ago.

Just south of the entrance to Temperance Yard, north side of Laskey Road is a team track. Usually there are one or two tank cars there, but I've seen a variety of other loads over the years.

Cars loaded with what appeared to be construction debris in Temperance Yard. I don't think this is (was?) steady business, though.

GM used to get service. But I don't think they do anymore.

The former 84 Lumber site on Alexis road also used to get service. It closed and sat empty for years. Airgas owns the building now. I don't think they use rail.

Just made a list based on your contributions.
http://railroadfan.com/wiki/index.php/A ... rogress.29

6 Corrections/Updates
1. Toledo Harbor Warehousing looks inactive, and GTW6401 commented saying the Toledo Blade is now produced in Michigan.
2. Ohio Blenders is now Alfa Green.
3. Smucker's is now Hometown Foods.
4. The Viking Paper spur looks unused, but they may still be using rail service.
5. Michelin appears to no longer use rail service (spur is overgrown).
6. Not sure if FCA Dundee uses rail service. Could someone comment on this matter?

Toledo Blade has been printed in Sterling Heights at the Detroit Free Press/Detroit News printing plant and trucked to Toledo since The Blade printing plant in Toledo was closed several years ago. I haven't seen any hi cube boxcars at the end of the track where the paper warehouse was located, in quite a while.

When I was in Dundee, it didn't look like FCA has gotten much inside the property. The spur is used for the transload operation, but that is outside the plant gate.

As for the place in Temperance. If this is the place with the spur just south of Sterns Rd, the spur doesn't look to be that overgrown in the Google image from August 2018. The Google Maps Sat. View shows 4 86' boxcars on the spur, but I don't know what that image was taken.

I should have clarified. The beginning of the spur is in really solid shape, however it has been cut at the gate to Michelin. All of the track on Michelin property has been removed.
The boxcars appear to just be stored on the spur, as there does not appear to be any customers (transloading, etc) on the spur in Temperance.
