Found this picture/slide Looking for info on location

Any historical questions can be posted here. Answers would certainly help as well :)

I’m wondering if the picture was taken from near here, obviously before the tennis courts. Notice the background.

The ground is high enough. In street view, the buildings behind the tennis courts are only partially visible, and that is with the use of an elevated camera. In the photo it looks like some buildings across the water. I can see them just to the left of the center utility pole.

The structure to which I refer is here:

Conjecturing here, but I wonder if the stones used to build the fountain or whatever it is are the same ones in your photo. Moved and reconstructed in an attempt to preserve history. I can't read the inscription from street view.

The area I am referencing is here:

I see where your going here looks close and is possible the houses across the street in my second picture and the elevation difference is throwing my off. Any idea when Old US-31 became "old" / replaced by US-31? Thanks for all the help I'm going to keep looking on these maps. Your idea does merit investigation though.

I found this article about the old railroad water tower in Petoskey being torn down in 1953.

From the website above:
Federation Park which no longer exists had once been the site of the home of Charles Caskey who was the contractor who built the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in 93 days! The Caskey home on this Bay and Division streets corner was eventually encompassed by the Imperial Hotel. After the Imperial Hotel burned in 1908, the space became Federation Park. Today the site is a parking lot for the Emmet County Building.

Around mid 1980's IIRC. A washout ended service on the line and shortly after the two remaining customers moved to spots on the GR&I line south of Petoskey.
