CN Locals on the Flint Sub

Unread post by GTWwatcher »

I've been out of the loop for awhile, so I apologize if I ask a question that has an obvious answer.

What locals run on the Flint Sub between Lansing and Port Huron? I know of 501 and 502. Does L500 still work out of Flint? Thanks in advance.

500 works from Flint east to Lapeer?

501 runs out of Sarnia, through the Tunnel, and works Port Huron, then continues west.

504 runs from Battle Creek? east to Durand, then works Flint and Port Huron.

L540? out of Pontiac will often run north up the Holly to Durand, do some work in the yard, and then go to Flint before head back to Pontiac.

514 from Flint to Pontiac was abolished September 2018. Ran overnights out of Flint. 950 in Pontiac was also eliminated then.

514 also did the work between West Pontiac and Durand en route. Any local business on the entire Holly Subdivision is served from Pontiac now.

500 is still active.

504 is running out of Battle Creek. They have been stopping to pickup at Flint and Lapeer.

Flint Sub 500 Series Trains:

L500 - Flint Yard Switcher. Generally does not leave the yard and switches GM the entire shift

L501 - Sarnia to Battle Creek - Normally departs Sarnia around 1600-1700. Sets out loaded truck frames at Flint. Picks up 30 loaded bi levels from Flint daily (first shift load out from the plant)

L502 - Battle Creek to Toledo - Normally on duty at Battle Creek at 10:00 and normally leaves Battle Creek around 11:30-12:30. Works Lansing Cory, Durand and Pontiac yards. Normally is in Durand around 1700 and Pontiac by 1900.

L504 - Battle Creek to Sarnia - Not sure of the run time. I believe this train works Durand, Flint and Lapeer as-needed. I believe it picks up empty frame flats in Flint and brings them to Sarnia.

L505 - Sarnia to Battle Creek - Normally departs Sarnia around 21:00 and arrives Flint around 01:00. Picks up 30 loaded bi levels from Flint (second shift load out from the plant). Picks up about 8 loaded auto parts box cars from Flint (out of GM SPO on the Mundy Wye). They then work Durand and make a set out and pick up. Normally a sizeable pickup of 30-50 cars daily from the HESR/GLC interchange. Departing Sarnia, it is normal for L505 to only be 3,000 feet, but departing Durand the train is normally over 10,000 feet and requires 2 or 3 locomotives.
