351 and 354 on March 4. I was there!
I was on 351 in the morning and 354 in the evening between Kalamazoo and Chicago for lunch and the Shedd Aquarium with my girlfriend. It turned out to be the same consist for both trains.
351 was about 20 minutes late, as was 365 before it. The Blue Water is still running 3 Superliners, as is the 350/355 consist.
On 351, we passed 350 at Niles Station. We made up most of the time on the 95mph territory, just to lose it all again between Porter and Gary sitting on the NS. We got to Union Station about 20 minutes late.
354 was a fun time leaving Chicago. We took Business Class on the way back to Michigan, to enjoy the calmness of priority seating. As we boarded the train, I noticed that there was no locomotive on the Detroit end, and with NPCU 90218 on the Chicago end, I knew we wouldn't be moving any time soon. Apparently, the first locomotive was having power problems and had been cutoff, and they brought #31 in from the yard to fill in. Well, something was also wrong with the 31, and so we sat and sat in the trainshed. We saw the Capitol Limited back in on the track beside us.... and then depart with all passengers aboard. The Lake Shore Limited backed in on the other track next to us, but fortunately we left before their 10pm departure time! They cutoff the 31 and sent it back to the engine house, then brought us another engine (#29, I think), which got us underway about 2 hours late from Union Station. After a brief stop at 21st Street, we sped into Michigan, finally arriving into Kalamazoo about an hour and 55 late. We met 355 at Michigan City east of the Drawbridge. The leading locomotive, (29, I believe) has a really strangely turned horn right now. Business Class was the way to go for that adventure!
