Wisconsin Central Engines

Unread post by Crow T Robot »

Are there any remaining Wisconsin Central engines in original paint either operating with CN or by another company? If so are any in Michigan service? Same goes for GTW engines? Or have they all be repainted?

Still some GTW blue locomotives on the CN including one SD40-2, one GP40-2 and a handfull of GP38-2s and GP9Rs. IIRC the only WC painted locomotives left on CN are their GP40s that are assigned to British Columbia.

Occasionally a GTW blue comes to the UP and works out of Newberry to Munising and Trout Lake.

I have tried so many times to see a train running on this line do you know if there are any good days/times to catch this train?

I thought WC GP40 3018 was the last one operating on CN? I thought it has been running around Illinois and the St. Louis area.

WC painted engines are some of the rarest on CN. If they aren't on the deadline being parted out they have been sold off or repainted. As mentioned, 3018 is supposedly the last WC engine roaming the system, a GP40.

After that the next one would be the DM&IR engines, Ever since the second to last one of them suffered catastrophic engine failure a few years ago it was parked and hasn't moved since. Only one DM&IR engine is left on the system as well, and it tends to stay up in Minnesota on home rails.
