Indiana: NS taking down steel

Unread post by GP30M4216 »

I was in Elkhart yesterday and heard a rumor from a reliable source that NS signal crews will be replacing "everything steel" from Elkhart west on the old NYC Water Level Route. Signal masts, signal heads, signal bridges, everything is supposed to come down in 2008 for replacement. Even the signal bridge right in front of the Elkhart Amtrak depot. We all know how reliable the rumor mill is in regard to upgrades, but it might be worth it to get some photos of your favorite NS toasters or Big Blue units under your favorite signal bridge or beside your favorite mast signal in case they do all come down later this year.....

Doublestacks and 20'2" autoracks have very little room between the top of the cars and those signal bridges.
