INRD/ISRR diamond in Switz City

Unread post by JStryker722 »

I just saw this location in a DVD set I bought on the INRD and thought Id ask for future reference:

1. Who owns/maintains the diamond?
2. Whose traffic has priority?
3.How many trains pass through there on average?
My Wife says my first love is trains..anint that the truth! Lol :D

I'd also like to know. I've looked at this location on Google Earth before. Not only does it look like an interesting spot to catch both roads, but it also looks like a spot one could hang out without drawing much attention.

This past summer INRD and ISRR entered an agreement where the INRD will haul the pittance of ISRR's traffic to Indu from Switz City and the ISRR will haul the INRD's traffic to NS via Oakland City (it had been going via LIRC).

The ISRR north of Switz City is essentially dead. (there's now an isolated local from Indy that goes as far as the warehouses in Mooresville, but nothing between Mooresville and Switz City)

The east end of the INRD is very predictable: Monday thru Friday I understand the HWSA and SAHW swap crews in Switz City about 6pm. On Saturdays only the SAHW will pass by a few hours earlier (1pm?) and on Sunday's only the HWSA will pass by a bit earlier, maybe 5pm? Most nights (6 times per week?) a rock train will roll thru between Bloomington and Merom, loads west one night, empties east the next- both thru Switz City loosely around 11pm. Theres also a local from from Jasonville the works as far as Bloomfield, maybe once or twice a week?

I am interested to know with what regularity the ISRR makes an appearance.

ISRR still has a customer in Martinsville. The north end consists of:
Indianapolis: Kid Glove Inc
Mooresville: Pacmoore, General Shale, Harris Rebar
Martinsville: Indy Step Saver
Between Martinsville and Switz City ISRR currently has storage cars at Silex and Worthington.

Switz City is a first come first serve diamond. All movements on either ISRR or INRD have to approach the diamond prepared to stop and swing the gate with a stop sign to allow movement.
Rule #1: BerkshireKid is God. Rule #2: God is always right. Rule #3: If you think you may actually be right refer to Rules #1 & #2.

So only one train runs on Sundays? I was thinking about heading that way tomorrow. So are there any other good spots on the INRD where Im guaranteed to see movement?

Ok. Thinking about blowing it off now since they don't appear to run anything on the weekend.

Most of the INRD's traffic is between Terre Haute thru Jasonville to Dugger, and much of it is coal.

Does anyone know the approximate times and days of the Newton Turn, CN and INRD's joint service to Indy?
