Well CSX could use a never before used trackage agreement on the Northern Ohio and Western to take the place of the NE transfer. Single track unsignaled jointed rail with a good bed. And they would need pilots.

Won't be able to run very many reroutes with the trimmed-to-the-bone crewbases, either.SousaKerry wrote:Well CSX could use a never before used trackage agreement on the Northern Ohio and Western to take the place of the NE transfer. Where did this train come from, and on its way to? Did come from where my family origins are a.k.a. Tiffin and Republic, or Deshler, or Luckey and Pemberville, or from Columbus. I remember the Norfolk Southern Crissey Road derailment in where I live in Springfield Township/Holland. My uncle who is now retired was one of the guys cleaning up the 17-car derailment, spent 24 hours. I went there with my dad and it was a cluster mess.
Re: Fostoria Derailment
Yeah, considering the NOW has 1 crew you're probably right. Not going to get many rerouted across them. Willard-Toledo is a regular pool anyway, looks like they're calling crews to get trains so must not be much track damage.Saturnalia wrote:Won't be able to run very many reroutes with the trimmed-to-the-bone crewbases, either.SousaKerry wrote:Well CSX could use a never before used trackage agreement on the Northern Ohio and Western to take the place of the NE transfer. CSX explored using that line around split. NOW balked because it would require 24hr a day dispatching operations, and the added revenue didn't justify the cost of the additional employees.

Re: Fostoria Derailment
Sure looks like a string line to me...
Re: Fostoria Derailment
MQT3001 has spoken. No need to investigate further.
So then why did it string line? Car derail then string line? Car with stuck brakes? Car with handbrake? Too many axles online? Engine surge? Slack action?

Because they closed the tower.CSX_CO wrote:

Hmmm...interesting, as you were also guessing stringline in the chat box.CSX_CO wrote:MQT3001 has spoken. No need to investigate further.

Cars dragged into a sharp curve? Seems highly likely the opinion we both SHARE is correct here.
Plus I never claimed to know THE cause. But I presume likely suspects include a rolled inside rail, or that these cars are reportedly empty, so maybe there was too much weight behind.
And to typhoons point, having a tower doesn't prevent derailments!

I love the FB quotes = PRICELESS
String lining can be caused by the rear of the trains brakes not being completely released before pulling on the rest of the train. Are those hoppers empty ? If so, then they contribute to the cause. Empty cars will pull off the track like that and leave little or no track damage. Happened at West Detroit when the CN started running the Detroit line from Vinewood to Coolidge. Took em a while to figure out that if you stop you have to pump off the brakes all the way through the train. It also dosen't help when there is a block of empties in the middle of a high tonnage train. No one hurt ! $#!t happens .

Re: Fostoria Derailment
Started laying track panels about the same time the big light bulb in the sky went away. Must be holding trains till Tuesday morning.
Re: Fostoria Derailment
Results of running freight trains so long. I'd love to see the tonnage profile. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a bunch of loads on the rear and empties in the middle.

Re: Fostoria Derailment
Has there been an announced cause yet?

I doubt they make the reason public...Saturnalia wrote:Has there been an announced cause yet?
