Piedmont Locomotive Works

Unread post by CarolinaSouthern »

Based out of the old A&Y yard, across the mainline from the old Southern Depot in Greensboro, NC, The Piedmont Locomotive Works was started in early 2006 to handle rebuilds and repair of locomotives, the building of new locomotives, and the repairs of rolling stock. The PLW is owned as a subsidiary of the Carolina Southern Railroad.

The PLW will rebuild any locomotives and/or rolling stock, provided the owners provide plans for what the equipment needs.

Currently, the PLW have completed the following projects:

One of the first SD45-3 units to come out of the PLW Shops in Greensboro, NC. This unit will be doing road-testing for the next 4 weeks to check for faults or problems. The engine was originally SP SD45X 9501, which became HLCX SD45X 6450, and then CS SD45X 5740.

PLW SD45-3 5740. Will become CS SD45-3 5740 if the testing goes well.

The PLW will receive a shipment of 8 SD45T-2's from the M&N. These units will be stripped for parts and the frames will be used to rebuild the SD45X's into SD45-3's.
