GRI/PRR History Blurb from Cadillac News 4/15

April 15, 1965

"Demolition of a historic landmark in Cadillac brought an end to the era of the railroad industry as it once was. Work on razing the old Pennsylvania Railroad roundhouse was nearing completion. The building was being torn down to make way for an addition to the Roundhouse Lumber Company. When constructed during the peak of the railroad business in 1910, the roundhouse was equipped with 13 stalls and had a 50 man crew to repair and maintain steam locomotives."

Walgreen's now occupies that spot on the corner of N Mitchell and Thirteenth Sts.

Pictures of this structure are very rare.

I recall that a tornado struck Cadillac in the early-60s that damaged the roundhouse and other nearby structures. IIRC the damage to the roundhouse led to the structures demolition.

I remember going by the roundhouse back in the day and seeing it full of F units. Rather neat what the mind can conjure up when picked at by a question or statement...this did it for me.
