Railfanning in Milwaukee and TRAINFEST 2005!!!

Unread post by Railzfan »

Hey everyone, this is what we did today on my railfanning trip to Milwaukee, WI and Rochelle, IL. On our way to Milwaukee I got shots of some NS power in a yard outside of Chicago, I was surprised to see what I think was a D9-40C, I will post pictures shortly. After we finally got through the as always traffic jam in Chicago it was to late by the time we got to Milwaukee to go to Duplainville, one of my favorite train watching Hot Spots! To view pictures of Duplainville action check out my railroadfan.com photo album. Since it was so dark when we finally arrived we headed for Walthers model railroad store, got a few containers and a set of crossing flashers. Tomorrow we are heading for TRAINFEST 2005 here in Milwaukee, and hey if any of you are going to be there tomorrow (Saturday) please post a comment and maybe we can meet there??? After the show it’s off the Rochelle,IL. My number one Hot Spot, train after train passes over the Rochelle diamonds almost constantly all day. To view pictures of the Rochelle action please visit my railroadfan.com album. I will post pictures of TRAINFEST tomorrow night! I will keep you posted every step of the way, so check often!

:D :D :D See you later! :D :D :D

Today's News and Updates.

Unread post by Railzfan »

Hello again all,

Yes that’s correct RailRoadFan, Duplainville has the CN/CP, tons of action on both lines. I highly recommend visiting :D . If anyone would like more information on this Hot Spot please feel free to post/email me on any questions you have.

Here is today’s news. Earlier this morning we headed for TRAINFEST and when I first arrived and walked in my first words where WOW!!! The place was huge!!! I have never seen such a gigantic train show. I will post pictures soon. It seemed like layout after layout, every scale from Z to G, some superb looking, highly detailed and good operating layout and some not so great ones. There where many manufactures such as, Walthers, KATO, Overland Models, MTH, and many others. Many hobby shops where there as well, some with good deals and some with higher prices than the normal ones, typical for shows  . I also got to meet Jim Hediger; senior editor of Model Railroader Magazine! And got a Behind-scenes-look at there newest project railroad, The Stony Creek Railroad, it is amazingly detailed. I also bought two new locomotives (a SD50 and DASH 8-40B) and a freight car. I took many pictures and I will share them with you shortly in my RailRoadFan album. I am currently in Rochelle,IL. And am heading for the Rochelle Railroad Park tomorrow, can’t wait to catch the action! I will keep you posted.

:D :D :D See you tomorrow :D :D :D

Rochelle, IL UPDATE

Unread post by Railzfan »

Hello again everyone,

Well here is the latest news: yesterday (Sunday, Nov. 13) was the day we visited Rochelle, cold and wet is the best way to put it. But doesn’t it seem that whenever there is bad weather or it’s raining something rare or uncommon goes by! Well yesterday was one of those days, first there where two extremely rare C&NW units (a DASH-9 and a DASH 8-40C) both in original paint!!! Besides that, two FURX locos on a stack train one BNSF SD40-2 with black paint over the BNSF and block lettering ‘FURX’ on the cab, the third unit was a green and silver FURX SD40-2. After that train cleared the diamonds a BNSF train with a BN SD60M on the point and an ICE (ex. NYS&W) in the yellow and black paint barrel’s by! But that’s not all! On one of the UP freight’s a PAN-AM box in gleaming black and blue paint was mixed in with the normal rusted boxcars. Just before nightfall another UP freight rushes by with a Southern Pacific Tunnel Motor!!! Wow what a sight, as always digital cameras don’t take very good pictures in “Low-light” situations. Expect to see pictures soon, I will post when I have them up in my album. If you have any questions on Rochelle, IL or any other place I have visited please post/email me with them. :D
