I've got several news bits here, courtesy the repaint wire:

1. MARC #69 will become CSXT #9969. It will be classed as a GP40-2 and replace the 6025 and SD50-2s on the Geometry Train service. It should come out in YN3B

2. CSX has ordered 29 more ES44AHs, and will be added to the 3100 series completing that series through 3174.

3. 2804 is your latest repaint into YN3B, coming from its former YN3 dip.

Three new YN3 to YN3b repaints are 2476, 8083 & 8808.

In other news, fresh off the wire, and this is big, expect the GP38-3 and GP40-3 rebuilds to come online SOON. These will have the "spongebob squarecab", and the first example of each could potentially be out by New Year's...we shall see.

To my opinion, I think the CSX YN3 paint schemes with the boxcar logo look pretty nice and authentic.

Here we go. Your first GP38-3 and GP40-3 are:

GP38-3 2000 is the former CSX YN2 painted 2751, now YN3B
GP40-3 6500 is the former CSX YN3 painted 6349, now YN3B

YN2 notes on the other page.

Spotted at Barr Yard this morning were former UP B40-8s 1810, 1830, 1842, 1868 and 1870, with UP markings painted out and "DO NOT FUEL" stenciled on their tanks. I've heard rumblings of ex UP B40-8s gathering here but this is the first time I've seen any. I'm assuming these are part of the group CSX bought and are headed towards Russell or Waycross.

I heard a bunch of former UP Dash-8s were sold to a scrapper. Nobody wanted them, so a scrapper was the highest bidder at auction. That might be why they're stenciled "DO NOT FUEL". Plus, that B40-8 rumor was pretty much debunked as bogus. The numbers of the engines listed as purchased by CSX, weren't even UP Dash-8's. Now, most of the engines I've seen headed for a scrapper had the fuel tanks stenciled that, former owning road reporting marks removed, and sometimes even the fuel caps welded shut.

Now, Q643-27 had a pair of OFOX (or something OF#X) leasers on it. Those showed as leased by CSX as of 12/20 or 12/23.

Practice Safe CSX

That could be Russ. I'm just going off how the UP C40-8s looked when they were sold to CN, they had the markings painted out and "DO NOT FUEL" stenciled on them as well.

I don't know if they were the same two you saw, but I saw 2 SD40M-2s this morning in Barr lettered for OFOX, 2797 and 2783. Both were former CEFX in UP yellow with red stripes on the noses.

4564 is your latest YN3 repaint into YN3B. There are now 414 YN3B units on the roster through all of the new GE ES44AC deliveries. While some of the final units may not be out yet, the order through 3174, has been added to our lists.

The OFOX units are indeed the former SP/UP SD45 carbody units in the 27/2800 number series, same as they were under CEFX/CITX. Not sure how many have been leased but with CSX's power situation being the way it is, I would expect there to be a decent number.

One of those OFOX units is trailing on what I beleive is Q500 north on the Toledo Sub right now. Currently it should be coming up to Sidney.

OFOX is the reporting mark for RESIDCO (Residual Based Finance Corporation). They have a decent sized fleet of rolling stock, and appear to be doing locomotive leasing as well, owning GP38-2s, MP15s, and (as reported) SD40-2s. Along with their rail assets, they do a lot of leasing and other business in the aviation world as well.

I'm sort of surprised CSX is leasing some 6 axle units, instead of getting more GPs from Helm, as I thought that was where their main power shortage was. I could be wrong though...

You're right about this...CSX is in need of more Geeps. It is probably why there are still RCPHG4s and B40/20-8s running around.

Has the idea ever been floated to put 4-axle trucks on some old SD40-2s to supplement the Geep fleet? But I guess at that rate you may as well throw SD40-2s on switching jobs and let the Geeps roam...

The bigger CSX yards seem to use SD40-2s (or SD50s) equipped with RCO almost exclusively, while Geeps are used on locals for industries that can't handle 6 axles. Geeps being such a premium nowadays, that's why a lot of the locals up here have been using SD40s while the RCO Geeps stay in the yard.

Why not take some SD40-2s out of storage and equip more yards with them, then? There are several dozen stored just sitting around...

And many of the stored ones have been cannibalized for parts.
