Train festival returns in 2014 and other items

Unread post by R.E.A.P.E.R. »

Locomotives, Wings & Wheels/Train Expo 2014 is coming to SRI. Only the name of the event has been listed which can be seen on the main page of the site.

Also the North Pole Express is heading to Ashley this year, not the fairgrounds.

Completely vague, zero real info and not even so much as a 'save the date' kind of notice - one wonders why they even bother saying anything at all? "We're doing something next year! We can't tell you what it is or when it will be!"

I seriously doubt it will be anything like the last "Train Festival" as they really didn't make a whole lot of money from it.

Be nice if they could get "the 49" to come back. That was a good draw.

SP 4449 is down for her mandatory 1492 inspection/rebuild. Also, after the incidents, I doubt she'll ever come back. Honestly, with no real firm date on 1225 coming out of rebuild (haven't seen or heard ANYTHING from them in a month or so), I doubt it'll go over well. Going to need more than last time, even Rock Island did not do so well.

I lost any respect for that place after they posted a video on there Facebook page of them switching with a go-pro attached to the brakeman's head. Claimed it was for Saftey to document it but the guy was more worried about where it was pointed than what he was actually doing. Then they proceeded in the video thread to call some of us who know the severity of that clowns. The one known as Walt knows what I'm referring to.

IDK how you get info, but "RailsOfMichigan" has posted several updates as of late, including 2 for June. Looks like they're moving along, tubes are going in, cab starting to come together, etc. Want more money, however.

I was talking to some of the volunteers that work on the 1225 while at the Durand Train Show promoting the 1225 Return to Rails Excursion which is taking place on March 15, 2014. ( For more info on the excursion go to http://www.RailyardProductions.com ) They said that they are aiming for a steam up sometime this fall. A good place to see whats happening on the locomotive is SRI's Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/steamrailroadinginstitute they usually post photo updates on there once a week.

Trains also has an article on their news wire for subscribers.
