GP35/9-3SLGs

Unread post by Saturnalia »

After we found sucess with our GP60-3SLGs, the design forces went to work to design a new version, this time using GP35s and GP9s in an A-B-A set to create high-horsepower switching power that is fuel-efficient, high-tractive effort, low emissions, and economical to run. The units are set to go into production in early June. Two pilot engines will be available for a tryout for those interested in purchasing the new locomotives. All locomotives will feature refurbished parts, including prime movers that are totally rebuilt.

Options:
- MUGC
- Tier-3 & 4 emissions
- Whatever else you can come up with, in reason.

Current Orders:
- 1 MNTC (GP60/9-3SLG-EL variant)

We have a couple of suggestions:
-Steam Generators for passenger trains.
-Dynamic/No Dynamic Versions
-B-B/C-C Truck Arrangements
-Horsepower stated on loco cab I.E. 14 for 1400 HP, 20 for 2000 HP, etc.

We can do just about anything you guys can come up with if you order. Although I doubt 6-axles would work...

Adding weight to make them heavier. Is the CSE's only suggestion so the CSE can use them to pull coal drags on the Ripple Creek branch.

If you do order, we can do that.

We don't have any built of the GP38/9-3SLG model yet, but we could send you one of our GP60-3SLGs for testing. They'll be built in the same manner, with the GP38/9 verison having a little less horsepower, but not a huge difference.

We will put it on 434 the South Bound UPS trailer train this evening if you want us to? Also would you want to bring down one of the GP60/GP60SLGs to Charottle NC for the CSE celebration on Saturday?

The first GP38/9-3SLG should be out around the first of June. We are scheduled to do a few restorations on MNTC equipment first, but we need to finish the drawings first anyway. However, the first set of locomotives to be converted might be hauled from Ensel Shortly.

Ahh crap. I just realized I meant GP35/9-3SLGs. We're using MQTX power for this, and it's GP35s not GP38s. Sorry for the miscue, but the units will still do pretty much the same thing minus a few ponies.

We have received our first order. It is for the electric-capable GP35/9-3SLG-EL variant. The units will be capable of diesel power or 100% electric operations. The order is for one unit for the MNTC

You may place your order and accessories requirements now.

I should mention all units come standard with -3 electronics, Dynamic Brakes, etc. They are built to CSX rebuild specs used on SD40-3s, minus the "spongebob squarecab" cabs.

A little less than the 3 would originally weigh.

GP35: 260,000 each (65,000 per axle)
GP9: 220,000 (original 240,000) (about 60,000 per axle)
Total: 740,000 (on 12 axles)

We can add/subtract weight if you want.

Ok, Can you make the whole set weigh 800,000 lbs, We will use it for the coal drag between Baltmore and DC. Also, can the 2nd unit (2nd in set lash-up) be cabless? Or is it already cabless?

We can make it cabless. We originally were going to setup the "brains" of the whole unit in there using the now-obsolete electrical cabinet, but we can put doors there instead. If we left the cab on, it would have quad-doors...

We will add ballast to increase the weight. Much of it will be done in the GP9 unit to make each section the same weight, since each will be capable of the same horsepower.

Oh, alright leave the cab on then. One last thing, since the cab will be left in place, can you fit a GPS unit in there with the sets computers? All of our locomotives have GPS (as does the steamers).
