Asking Permission

Unread post by ES44AH »

As you may or maynot know, the M&N uses the former B&O, at least the original portion. In keeping with this, i am asking if it is ok if i aquire or use the B&O line from Pittsburg to Chicago. Please PM me, or post to the M&N thread. This is the last expansion of the M&N.

Please just post here....

I'm not sure if anyone uses the B&O...if it's open it's okay to use it. Just remember Barr belongs to CSX, no matter what

You mean the Chicago line? How does CSX go from the east to Chicago? Is there another route? Just wondering?

The B&O went thru Pittsburg and went west towards Chicago. The Capitol Limited went to Chicago.

I say you can have it, but you must let CSX have trackage rights, since they have no real other way to access their NE properties.

Barr Yard is one of CSX's main yards in Chicago. I'm drawing a blank right now on whether it's C&O or B&O

Here's an idea, The Chicago line is the only way CSX can get stuff to Barr, Well, the M&N could pick up CSX trains at Barr at ahnd them off to CSX somewhere east, like a bridge line.

Go ahead. CSX would have to operate some stuff out of there, like traffic to the south. Also, you'd become a direct interchange partner with the Monon & Marquette

I have no objections if the above happened.

But then deshler will be packed with even more foam to see your steam engines. I say we blow up the town before drown in foam. Lol Jk but just so you know bridge routes are incredibly obsolete. Look at the DT&I, with the NS merger in 1982 they could just go to Toledo and Detroit and bypass the DT&I. SOU was gone which meant that the CNO&TP tracks were linked to Detroit. I think CSX merger had something to do with it but I can't remember how.

M&N owned, CSX trackage rights, huge brick wall as deshler, end of story.

I believe the DT&I/GTW really started to dry up when both the N&W/SOU and Chessie/SBD mergers happened in the 80s. Both the Southern and the Seaboard sent a pretty good amount of traffic up the DT&I to Detroit. When the mergers happened, it started to fizzle. There were still a couple of pretty good size trains running, but it was bridge traffic to and from NS.

Back to the topic, I have no problem with this acquisition. The Monon (CIL) would be happy to interchange with you in Chicago, or even south of Michigan City, at a spot called Alida. We can get traffic to Louisville, Indianapolis, and other locations in Indiana.
