Along the CN Flint Sub: Lapeer & Port Huron

Postby Justin on Tue Jul 17, 2012 7:58 pm

Spent most of Saturday along the CN Flint Sub, this time east of Flint instead of west like in Durand. Started off in Lapeer which is my second time train watching there, caught a couple of eastbounds within 10 minutes of each other. Only got video of the second eastbound as the first one blew over my camera knocking out the SD card, as a result the first video was corrupt, but the camera is ok. Here is he second video of an eastbound blasting through town by the depot:

Originally planned on going to Durand after Lapeer but instead continued east, all the way to Port Huron. This being my first visit to PH for train watching as well as sight seeing. Filmed three trains, two of which were fresh out of Canada while another was fresh out of the US. Interesting to see them trains disappear into the tunnel also. Aside from train watching went and checked out the Bluewater bridge, some of the parks in town, and even went swimming at the beach there, then back to the Amtrak depot for more trains. Here is the video:

Great way to spend a hot Saturday afternoon!

Nice video's Justin. It is fun to watch the trains accelerate out of the tunnel :) But I like the first video because of the elevator in the back ground 8)

It will be a lot easier to get around Port Huron when the overpass project at Michigan and Griswold is finished.

Between that overpass, the I-94 work between Lapeer and the Blue Water Bridge and the work on Water Street, it's not very easy to get around town right now. It will be nice when that overpass is done though, especially if they put in a sidewalk and a parking lot nearby.
