While I agree it would be THE spot of the year to be if you were a photographer and could stand the foam.

No, if you're a true "photographer," you'd catch them at work, not sitting in a cramped museum.

1st, a "true photographer" can take interesting shots no matter what the situation. 2nd, these engines were done by the NS, in part, as a PR tool. So while they may not be pulling a train, they will be "at work" in Spencer.

Very good points! And so were the previous points about it being a foamfest. I'm sure the setup and crowd will challenge even the "true photographer".

I think you know what I meant when I said "at work." They may be making NS money by sitting in Spencer, but that's not how I meant it. Jeebus H. Christ.

They are likely not building all of them in a row....some may be for export or for another road intermixed with the NS stuff.....not to mention the special, one-time only paint schemes take more time....

A "true photographer" will wave his/her magic wand and make all the foamtards disappear so there's a wide open shot of the locos.

Looks good on an SD70ACe carbody just as well as it did on a FM Trainmaster.

Gotta admit, wasn't very excited about this one originally, but it looks pretty good. Next up, the Wabash. :)

I've never been familiar with that railroad. Thought WAB might be Western Alabama or something. Thanks.

And at the end of the day, I've already spent more time & gas money chasing down "good shots" of heritage units than a trip to Spencer would be and I've only gotten 4 of the ones released so far. Several of them (Southern and Interstate come to mind right off) have never been north of West Viriginia to date. It's a chance to see and shoot every single one at one event that will likely never come along again. Yeah, I'd rather get each unit in beautiful light leading a train out on the road at a distinctive location... but that could take somewhere between years and never (to get all of them) at this rate plus considerably more time & money. So Spencer looks like a pretty good deal to me and so what that tons of other foamers will "have the same shot". It's the chance to have your very own pictures of what will surely be an iconic photo event - like being present for this:

But to each their own. That's one of the things that makes this hobby interesting is everyone has their own interests and things that make them head out the door.
