Thanks for the offer, but I'll probably still drive myself because I'd stop in Lansing at some point to visit my parents. :)

HA! :D

http://www.hollandsentinel.com/news/x18 ... o-Keewatin

Douglas —

The most photographed vessel on the lakeshore Monday seemed immovable in the strong winds as couples, young and old, families and folks with their dogs walked down the wooden docks in Douglas to capture a few more memories before the 105-year-old steamship Keewatin was itself a memory.

Jim Thias joined the procession, snapping pictures of his girlfriend with the Keewatin in the background.

“And I hope to be here Wednesday,” the Grand Rapids man said, to get one more look as the ship is towed out of Kalamazoo Harbor that morning on its way to Canada.

Here's a 1938 photo of the Keewatin in Port McNicoll, Ontario, as it worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad.

Yep. I was there taking pics from 7am to 3pm. And now I'm going to miss it tomorrow. Hopefully they struggle tomorrow and the impending bad weather forces them to move it this weekend.

The Keewatin is currently docked in the harbor just inside the pier for another day a so. After a two mile hike through wet dune grass and sand, I was able to get a few final pics.

And a couple more shots from a sunny Sunday morning. The boat is scheduled to leave Saugatuck this morning, possibly entering Lake Michigan around 10am or so. If you're along Lake Michigan today from Holland northward, keep your eyes open!
