Holly Sub Southbound Autorack Trains

Postby bnsfben on Mon May 21, 2012 6:28 pm

While at Durand on Saturday, I saw three trains go south down the Holly. All had UP power. I know for a fact one of them was L540 (almost all autoracks). Does anyone happen to know if Orion has began to recieve autracks, or is it just that there was a big demand for autoracks at one plant? I have never seen three UP auto trains all within three hours of each other.

My understanding is the Orion plant doesn't ship out by rail nor have they for quite some time. Unless something's changed....

The racks going to Flat Rock are for Auto Alliance and for Ford. Most of the GM loads are coming from Lansing.

Evan my question is... if autoracks are going to Pontiac, what plant are the going to? Obviously not Yellow Cab. And as far as I know Orion is not yet recieving auto traffic.

That L540 did not stop in Pontiac, they went straight to Flat Rock.

I believe the Pontiac Metal Center is the only GM operation still open in Ponitac itself.

I had to go to a meeting at the plant last November and judging by the distroyed crossing signals on Columbia Avenue, random missing sections of rail, and concrete barriers partially blocking the right-of-way, I'd say it's safe to say no.
