G&O Railroad

Unread post by atrainguy60 »

The Genesee and Oakland Railroad is a shortline railroad that operates between Sterling Heights and Millington, MI. It also owns a line between Oxford and Flint. I will also post a roster and list of trains soon.

Here is the map of the railroad. I now have a question, does anybody own this abandoned train line(the one between Sterling Heights and Millington)? If not, the G&O will be part of the organized paper railroads. I would interchange with the DT&C in Sterling Heights, the TSt.L&C(GR&P) at Oxford and Millington, CSX(maybe Marquette Rail) in Flint, and CN in Lapeer.

Trains:

100 Sterling Heights-Millington turn
101 Flint-Oxford turn

There are occasional grain trains on the line.

You are on your own in Flint...Our trains to flint will soon change their routing up to Saginaw, bypassing the Flint Yard area, which will be de-constructed and then the parts will help expand the saginaw yard. This will be done this fall.

No one owns those lines that I am aware of.

Ok, looks like I'm in. As for Flint, there is one customer that both G&O and CN serve. So it will be a lightly used line in Flint.

TSCR is sending track workers to weld the switches to the G&O so trains can be interchanged.

Here is another map:

The placemarks are the customers.

I just realized, I would be interchanging with the TSt.L&C at Rochester, cause that's where the ex GR&P/ex MAL is at, not in Oxford. Unless, the TSt.L&C owns the line in Oxford too.

Oxford used to be the gravel capital of the US! Many trainloads of gravel left on both GTW and MC/NYC. I have toyed with the idea of having my paper railroad resurrect gravel from Oxford but so far have not thought of a way for it to make sense too me :?

In your case gravel could go from Oxford to Flint rather than LSRC from Alpena to Flint.

That's interesting, I didn't know Oxford was once like that. As for your railroad, you could just say that some companies decided to put some of their large gravel pits in Oxford, and that your railroad will have spurs into it.

It needs a destination that makes sense. The one I play around with is a gravel movement from Oxford to Romeo via ex-GTW Cass City sub, Pontiac Beltline, and Romeo Sub. Another possible movement would be Oxford to Jackson via Cass City Sub, Pontiac Beltline, and Jackson Sub. There is a little reality to both movements but also some liberty's on my part. I may have to give both some more thought.
