GLNRR

Unread post by atrainguy60 »

The Great Lakes Northern Railroad is the railroad that was formed when the PMRR and the M&GLRR merged together to form a new railroad. The excursion trains that the M&GL wanted to run from GR to Lowell will still happen. The PMRR had some ex Metra cars in storage in Cadillac, so some of those will be used for the excursion train. I will list a roster and a list of trains will be made soon. Here is the map.

I made a mistake in the map. I forgot to add the line between Gaylord to Mackinaw City.

A wye will be put in on the northwest side of the diamonds in Flint where the GLNRR crosses the CN Flint Sub by the Amtrak station. This will be for some new intermodal trains that will start running from Muskegon to the new Flint Intermodal Terminal that is being built at the old buick city. The trains will run on the former M&GL tracks and then turn on the Port Huron Wye in Durand and go to Flint via CN, then turn north at the new wye and go to the GLN's large yard in the north side of Flint. The intermodal terminal will be finished sometime in mid summer.

The large GLNRR yard in northern Flint, just north of the buick city grounds, has been used mostly for storage since 2000. In 2000, PMRR moved most operations to Saginaw, but kept some offices in Flint, and some locals originated there. Once the intermodal terminal is finished, the yard will be the origin/terminating point for new intermodal trains. The trains going to Flint will stop at the yard, and some switcher engines(probably gensets) will start taking the cars to the terminal for loading or unlading. The containers that have been unloaded will then be put on trucks. Triple Crown is looking to see if there is room for a new facility for them there, too. This project will bring over 600 jobs to the Flint area. CN is going to acquire trackage rights on the GLN from the Flint Sub to the GLN intermodal yard. There may be foreign power on some of the trains, such as UP and BNSF on trains from the west coast that CN took in Chicago, and CSX and maybe NS from Toledo.

Busy right now on the Plymouth Sub. A EB CP ethanol train is currently in Lansing, with a DME, a ICE, and a SOO leading. A WB intermodal CP is in East Lansing in the main waiting for the Ethanol train to get onto the siding there, with two CP loco's leading. The ethanol will stop on the siding in East Lansing, and the intermodal will continue west. M022 is right behind the ethanol and will park at Ensel Yard, two SD40-2's, waiting for the traffic to get out of the way. M023 is going through Meridian, one C40-8 and a SD50. There is a WB CP mixed freight in Williamston now too, with one CP engine leading. A WB empty Essexville coal train is in Webberville now with two BNSF dash 9's leading. And finally, a WB CP autorack is in Fowlerville with a CEFX and a CP leading.

It is official, there will be Triple Crown trailers being loaded and unloaded in Flint. A small part of the intermodal terminal will be for Triple Crown. From the looks of it, CN will have two Triple Crown trains a day, one each way, going to/from Toronto and Flint. GLN will also have some of the Triple Crown business, but it's unknown right now how frequent the trains will be on the GLN.
