CSX Pre-YN2 Paint List

SD40-2 8223 has been painted YN3 which makes one less pre YN2 unit on the roster now. This leaves only six pre YN2 units remaining that are working. GP15T 1518, GP38-2 2506,2519, SD40-2 8320,8404,8418. 8418 is scheduled for paint now. Two others remain, SD40-2 8036 stored, and 8318 stored pending retirement.

The Pre YN2 painted locomotives on CSX has now shrunk by one more with the photo on rrpa today of SD40-2 8320, now in YN3. This leaves but five left running, seven total including two stored pending retirement.

SD40-2 8418 is supposidly at Huntington now for paint, and GP38-2 2506, one that has been hanging around Grand Rapids often times since last summer is on its way to Huntington for paint. This will leave but three pre YN2 units left if they do. Stay tuned.

YN2 hasn't been used since 2003 IIRC. There are a few ex Conrails in YN2 that still look pretty fresh, though.

The day Q364 wrecked in Wellington, it had a right out of the paint shop in the dark it would reflect your face, 1194.

The YN3 paint scheme began in February 2002 which ended the painting of YN2 units. Last month we just celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the YN3 scheme The many YN2 painted units that were painted by Conrail at Altoona when clean, (most of which were former Conrail locomotives) still looks today as if they have just been painted. Either good quality paint or good workmanship, probably both, but their repaints never faded like the ones coming out of Huntington and or Waycross as time went on.

SD40-2 8418 has been confirmed painted YN3, while GP38-2 2506 remains at Huntington being worked on and will be painted soon. This leaves SD40-2 8404 as the last "original" YN1 painted unit left on the roster. along with partial repaints, (making them YN1) GP15T 1518, GP38-2 2506,2519 and SD40-2 8036. Only 3 remain working.

Meanwhile, 43 new repaint discoveries since Feb 12th, gives the following new paint stats:

1 CR, (stored) 5 YN1, 1,237 YN2, 2,870 YN3. Of the YN2 remaining units, 1004 are GE, 233 are EMD.

Woops, seeing I was the one that first reported 8418 in YN3, that makes for a bad brain typo. Its 8404 that remains in YN1, not 8418.

For those keeping track I had the 277 today, and from what I can see, it was repainted last month around the 23rd. It was nice and fresh.

The first of the CSX SD40-3 rebuilds for 2012 are begining to come out of Huntington finally. 4030 is the former 8127. 4032 will be from the former YN1 8036, which now leaves but three pre YN2 units left, all of three working. GP15T 1518, GP38-2 2519 and SD40-2 8404.

When was the 4026-4029 built? Last I knew it was only up to 4025. Also the 4424 was in Collinwood the other day in brand new fresth YN3

4026 was released for service in early November, 4027 in mid November, 4028 and 4029 in mid December.

34 more paint changes, all discovered since April 1, plus the addition of 30 new 3000 series locmotives have changed the paint stats to look like this:

Still five on roster pre YN2 units left, CR 8865 which won't run again as Conrail, 4 pre YN2 units, one of which is probably retired by now (8318). 1,215 YN2 units remain, 218 EMD and 997 GE. GE totals left are now under a thousand. Next step is to get YN2 totals under a thousand as well. There are now 2,924 units in YN3. Still no railcar logo repaints, while at least 80 new units now have it.
