Random Thoughts

For the group who LOVE to make threads never end, this forum is for you. Contained inside are the longest threads known to man, and responsible for half of AARR's posts. :)

There's a few methods I have in place to limit users from posting too often with basically no content. Of course I have the ability to just ban said user if they abuse it or delete their posts at the very least, making your post count fly down. Don't push it :)

Basically yes, but it's quite the good job. Really only read this part of the thread due to AARR linking it in the chatroom :)

I brought this to ~Z~'s attention because MQT really and truly deserves the Most Irrelevant award. Read the drival MQT is putting in this thread and I think 99% would agree.

1/2 my posts are in Paper Railroads these days, and around a quarter here in superlongthreads. Atrain's about the same I suspect. As far as the "relevant" forums go, I don't go looking to post something.

Sometimes, paper railroads seem like a chat room because by the time you post something in thread A, something is said in thread B, you reply in B, then A is lit up again. A Post count that jumps up 10 in an hour is just a side-effect of that. I don't think we've ever "sold" locomotives without a dozen posts...I have 534 posts there since Late March.

Keeping track of post counts is me being fascinated over data with trends. I foam over charts and maps just about as easily and readily as trains. Sometimes I'll study my map of US railroads for over an hour without stopping. It's wierd.

First off in my Data-Crunching Rampage:
Sub-title for SuperLongThreads says:
and are responsible for half of AARR's posts

Well, they are responsible for exactly:
27.6072898% of AARR's posts

More data to come

Since you like data stuff, could you find out the percentage of my posts in Super Long Threads? I'm terrible with math, plus I'm really lazy.

I can tell you that roughly half (700) or so of your posts are in superlongthreads. However, you have far fewer than me altogether in the other area's I've labeled as "Irrelevant". Flood to come when I'm done typing LOL.

Yep. 450 or so

700+450= 1150. That leaves like what? 500 others

I mostly rely on posting links and videos lately outside of paper railroads and super long threads.

MQT3001 vs. AARR for the Title of Most Irrelevant Member of Railroadfan.com

First off, I wasn't going to go through all of AARR and I's posts and judge each one "irrelevant" or "relevant". So, I have designated a few forums where most posts have little to do with actual railroading/railfanning. These areas are:

-Trip Reports (a lot of "Nice Shots" and "I Enjoyed it")
-Chit Chat Babble Room
-Picture of the Month
-Paper Railroads
-Super Long Threads
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the data from each of us, all are lifetime Stats (AARR since Dec. 2004, MQT3001 since Sept. 2011):

MQT3001
Percentage of Posts made in "Relevant" Forums: 45.6%
Percentage of Posts made in "Irelevant" Forums: 54.4%

AARR
Percentage of Posts made in "Relevant" Forums: 49.41%
Percentage of Posts made in "Irelevant" Forums: 50.59%
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, looks like I win

BTW, a large chunk of my what you consider "irrelvant" posts is from an old forum that was discontinued called Politics, Religion, and Extreme. However, ~Z~ somehow did not deduct the post counts (for anybody who participated) when he removed the forum. It was very relevant.

Now because this post is in Super Long Threads you would count it as irrelevant when it really is not. It is informative to the newbies at this site. Also your catergorization of what is relevant and not relevant is subjective therefore it makes your intrepertation of the numbers very very skewed.,

MQT - I know your obsession with post counts seems very natural and normal but its not and you should stop it. Seriously. But if you insist on pursuing it keep me out of your threads whenever you reference it. I am very serious.

Hey why don't all of y'all post counters start a new thread called "Post Count Updates."

I like the truly Random Thoughts thread but don't give a rat's posterior about who posted more, at what rate, or on what date.

AARR has as many posts as he does, MQT has as many posts as he does, and Atrain has as many posts as he does. It really doesn't matter to most of the rest of us.

The thread isn't about random thoughts anymore. Lets bring it back home. Count your posts and discuss them if you must; but not here please.
