Stored Locomotives?

Was wondering if anyone out there has any ideas what is up with these five SD50's and one SD60. They have been at the P1A in Collingwood for over a month now. CSXT 8500, 8509, 8569, 8603, 8609, 8744.

Maybe CSX, like NS sees the possibility to rebuild them? That'd be my guess and the SD40-3 rebuilds seem to be a success, unlike the SD50-3's.

SD40-3 program is a complete rebuild...SD50-3's get downgraded and thats about it....Not much of a rebuild.

Your thinking of 50-2's. 50-3's while not a compleate rebuild, is more then a downgrade. They get new computer controled stuff, they get the guages replaced with computer screens like the widebodies. They get components installed for air start as primary stat of the prime mover, and much other stuff.

Yes but much different compared to the SD40-3 where it is basically a rebuild from the frame up or along those lines.

About a month ago they said they were going to be storing 250 locomotives. I didn't hear what types, but the ones you listed sound like good canidates.

We've lost all our SD40-2's that were in local service, now using 3 and 4 four axle units to move the cars. Our other local runs with a pair of Dash-8's now for the tonnage.

Probably just stored waiting for an uptick in traffic, or perhaps eventual rebuild fodder.
