Any Publically Traded Paper RRs?

Unread post by Saturnalia »

Are your paper railroads traded pubically? That means people could buy stock, and it's traded on the stock market, such as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). This also requires you to put out a quarterly report about earnings, profits, ect at the end of every quarter. This right now, as the end of Quarter 1 (Q1) was the end of March, this is an earnings season, and that is why you see the railroads that are public (Mostly the Class Is), releasing earnings data. So, are your railroads public?

MQT isn't

My Penn Central is privately owned as I have no desire or interest in trying to put out a financial report.

The DR&EC is privately owned as well. If I knew more about stock trading, I'd consider making it public, but I know little about the stock trade.

I should have made it clear that you DON'T HAVE to put out a "report" on here...I was more curious than anything.

MQT is largely Employee-Owned, but here is what the breakdown looks like:

Employees: 68%
Private Investors: 24%
Customers*: 6%
Other: 2%

* YES: Customers can buy into the MQT. Most customers who own a share of the company actually own quite a bit of track into their facilities (Lafarge, Sargent Sand, Dow, Nugent, ect).

Privatly owned companies must have a X at the end of their reporting mark, like HLCX, and GLLX, thats why CSX is CSXT, becuase they arent privetly owned, lol thanks to brent for telling me this.
I'm just here to put in time claims and complain

Ehhh...Thats leasing companies that must have an X after their name. How about MQT? They aren't MQTX! GLLX= Great Lakes Locomotive Leasing....

Reporting marks that end in X means whoever owns it isn't actually moving it in Railroad service, such as leasing companies such as GATX, GLLX, TTX, ect

Has nothing to do about weather or not the company is publically traded

Ahh, I see where he might be coming from. In some places, its worded as "private compaines", but that simply means companies that don't operate a railroad, such as GATX. It has NOTHING to do about actual company ownership....

From Trains Magazine:
The letters, known as reporting marks, indicate the owner of the car, while the number places it in the owner's fleet. Reporting marks ending in X indicate ownership by a private company as opposed to a railroad.
