MQT3001 wrote:the first of many double tracking Projects for the Grand Rapids Line (Plymouth to Porter) will begin on Monday. The Siding at Hudsonville will be joined to the Run around track in Grandville, and that will tie into the two mains....crossovers will be at Grandville and East End Hudsonville. This is expected to take 2 weeks, operational on April 15th at 6am for Amtrak.
the work is going as planned. the run around track has been tied into the main in Grandville, and the second main now goes to Port Sheldon. all grading work has been done...just track laying. tie train to GRP called for 100 out of Barr in Chicago.

Ex D&M/LSRC unit #481 came out of the shop today. Just as with 181, 283, and 381, the entire unit was overhauled to factory standards, and got a fresh MQT Paint Job (381 got a repaint of the old D&M Scheme, as a heritage Unit).

The GR Sub (now includes the Plymouth Sub as well) is PACKED. trains at nearly every siding. Also, some of the trains don't fit in the smaller sidings. this is why we are aggresivally double-tracking. The rest of the track on the new Grandville-Hudsonville segment should be in by Tomorrow, and the signaling should be up by Friday for patching in the nex section on sunday Morning at 9:00 AM. Main 1 at CP Grandvilel will be down from 000-300 EDT tonight for installation of the new switches (they will form a crossover), and then Hudsonville will be closed Thursday Morning from 200 to 400 EDT for similar work.

the double tracking between Grandville and Wyoming is finished, going to be patched in Tomorrow night. all new signals the whole way from what will now be CP "Grandville" to CP "East Hudsonville". Still searchlights from Plymouth to Porter everywhere else ( under this senario the DGRP took over the CSX line is late 1996).

Next section will be Trowbridge to Ensel. the tie train that came in yesterday will be called at 1800, bound for Ensel.

The GR&P is going to need to place diamonds on your line between Royal and Tyron Road crossings on the northeastern side of Michigan City. What would be a good time to install them?

PAralleling Tryon? also, how many connection tracks do you want, and how many transfer tracks?

Yep, it will be paralleling Tyron. How about two connection tracks, one on the northern side of the diamond and the other on the southern side. And one transfer track, which will be on the northern wye.

okedokee. the shop crews will make the diamonds and switches tonight. MQT will own the track for 100 yards in either direction of the crossing. I say diamonds because we plan on double tracking the GR Sub, so we'll just stick in both. Don't know when they will be installed. How long before you reach the crossing?
