CSX Heritage Units

Unread post by StupidFleet »

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — To celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the CSX Corporation creation in 1980, CSX plans to honor many of the railroads that make up the present day CSX system. As Union Pacific did a half-decade ago and Norfolk Southern started recently, CSX plans to create a fleet of heritage locomotives totaling 15 units honoring a wide variety of predecessor roads.

The locomotives will be ES44ACs from an upcoming order from GE. The railroad's Huntingtion, W Va., shop will paint eight, while the Waycross, Ga., shop will handle seven heritage units.

Seaboard Coast Line
Seaboard Air Line
Seaboard System
Chessie System
Baltimore & Ohio
Chesepeake & Ohio
Western Maryland
Atlanta & West Point
Atlantic Coast Line
Louisville & Nashville
Durham & Southern
Georgia Railroad
Western Railway of Alabama
Clinchfield
Monongahela

Like NS, CSX plans to recreate the paint schemes as accurately as possible. By contrast, UP used the old railroads' logos and colors, but created new interpretations on the old liveries.
