Custom Train Paintings/Drawings

Unread post by Michigan Railfan »

Hey everyone. I wanted to start a topic where people could show off their own train related paintings and drawings. I know there are a few people here that make paintings in Microsoft Paint, using templates from trainiax.net.

Here's my Canadian National GP40-2W made in MS Paint using one of those templates:

I guess it's time to do my planned pen, ink and watercolor of the 4449 of which I took several photos of in 2009, just for that purpose. I've done lot's of aviation art and want to do trains too. I've illustrated two aviation oriented children's books and I'm in between books so now would be the time. Stay tuned! :)

Thanks, DT&I. Took around five hours to complete. Yours look great! I know you have quite a few of them... And they all look great.

TraintrackGal: Can't wait to see what you come up with. I have quite a few train drawings on paper from a while ago... They came out all right. Good luck!

I enjoy looking at your work too :) Years ago, and I mean many years ago, I had hundreds of drawings of 1970's/early 1980's era engines and rail cars. Most of my focus was GTW equipment but I had quite a few others too. My father provided scale paper (1' = 10'). Without official diagrams I would scale out whatever I drew. Later, I had HO equipment that I could use to measure so my drawings got pretty precise. I could lay out 100 car trains led by three or four GTW GP's that would stretch out 50' across the house :)
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

That sounds pretty cool AARR. Do you still have them? I think I'm going to paint a GTW unit next... Maybe a GP38-2 or something like that. Or an NS Dash 9.

The first thing I ever drew where my parents could recognize what I was drawing was a train (locomotive). That had to be when I was around 2 or 3. I do have a four year art degree and was a graphic artist for 20 years. But I never left fine art and that's my preferred method of drawing. But I really enjoy looking at other art media such as computer art and that in itself is time consuming as you have mentioned. Would love to see more from all of you!

You nailed it MIRF :!: Best one of the 5812-5836 I have seen. You got the color and nailed the engine details (longer anti climber and nose, type A trucks, etc.) and GT squiggle too.

Dug up a couple of pen and inks from my 'community' days.
This one is a fishplate on the 75 pound just north of Marine
City on the PH&D.

I haven't lost my mind, it's on tape backup here somewhere...
