What do you think about these ones? hmm
What I think is RedeSide is posting the info that I am used to seeing from you, OwlCaboose. You used to post all kinds of stuff about MI railroading here and at MIRR.com. Now, I only see you posting communter and passenger info and no one cares about commuter or passenger service :P (Jkg
AARR! Really, I thought you had listen on a 91.7 FM radio from your car or truck yet! Maybe you missed listen them. I am talking about passenger rail service. :P ( )

Helena has picked up a bunch of fertilizer / elevator locations around MI. The places I have seen do not receive rail service even if there is a spur (Richmond, off CN). In fact, CN has petitioned to abandon the short branch to the spur in Richmond. So I am pleasantly surprised to hear Helena receives rail service.

What? Awesome! I rode the Wolverine over the summer, and what should have been a 5 1/2 hour trip ended up being 7 1/2. Just because NS wanted the charge Amtrak for high speed; Amtrak didn't want to pay, so NS restricted their speeds to 20 mph. About time they did something about it.

I believe they give a lot scrap steel to HESR

Also the GM Saginaw Metal Casting center
Do these guys still get switched out by the railroad?
http://www.mlive.com/business/mid-michi ... t_215.html
Nexteer doesn't ship anything by rail anymore they do receive loads of steel slabs for auto parts making at least it's something, A far cry from the 1970's when i was a kid it was a booming affair back then. As far as GM-SMC, They do not ship or receive anything by rail anymore it was the old Gray Iron Foundry back when it was that they used to receive many loads of Coking Coal.
They receive by proxy. They get all their metal from the aluminum smelter down the road on Nodular Dr. That place does receive box cars. Any hope of Saginaw Metal Casting ever getting anything by rail is long gone. A few years ago GM removed all the furnaces from SMCO, and as stated, all their metal comes from Nodular Dr.

Inbound sugar beets from Deckerville (I have heard numbers of 600-1500 per year), outbound molasses, sugar beet pulp (animal feed ingredient), and possibly some bulk sugar products.

Good to see the sugar plants upgrading. A note not in that article. A majority of the old plant in Carrolton Mi is being demolished right now. The bulk silos, and the packaging area look like they will remain. All the old plant building seems as though it will all be wrecked.

Would be a nice pick up for HESR. The plant in Owosso usually has 3-5 cars on their spur whenever I drive by (which is not often) but that could be a months worth of cars for all I know.

What is cool is the Owosso plant has an old covered hopper at the end of their spur that never moves. I hear they unload into that car and transfer the pellets to the plant from there.

ADS also has the same set-up in London, Ohio, a single car at the end of the spur for storage.

Considering Ford is investing $500 Million into the plant with plans to build the new Fusion and another new car there in addition to the Mustang, I'd say it's a good bet that traffic will be picking up out of Flat Rock.

Edit: Just read that Ford will be adding 1,200 new jobs to the plant. More here: http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/10/ford ... ock-plant/

I read in the Saginaw News today that Midland Co-Generation Venture is planning a 640 Megawatt expansion, This is a Natural Gas fired power plant. There is a rail spur into there but is rarely used we will see i guess, This is in Midland Mich. They also announced that JR Whiting will be completely shutting down by January 1st 2015 get your pictures of 766 and 767 while you still can. This is just north of Toledo a few miles north of the border.

Possibly another victim of the new EPA standards backed by this current administration regarding coal fired plant emmissions.
