If someone will tip me off I will try to drive up to document. :)

Looks like no activity can happen yet because of MOW work needed. Just south of the MA tower a large pile of dirt on the tracks blocking south to the scrap yard. A crew will need to come in to gauge and lift some of the ties out of the muck for sure. Also the street crossings will probably need to be picked out before a train can come down off the CSX above Willow St. I doubt much will happen until the weather warms up.

Looking south on the spur in North Lansing to be reactivated near MA Tower. Fencing and a dirt pile will have to be removed before trains can service the scrap yard. Photo taken 1-6-11 This photo was left out of an earlier post will the other photos from a set taken last Thursday. Scroll back one page to see them.

Willow St? I think you're confusing that spur with another.

Yes, I should have written East North Street instead of Willow.

Pat C
The place near Cashway Lbr is a second location for Reid Machinery. They usually have a heavy duty flat here and at the MLK location.

The one on south Logan has ventured out on at least one occasion I know of but it was 5+ years ago. Could be they have reached the 50 year age block. The one on Logan is a General Steel Castings car cast in one piece with, if I recall correctly, a six and four wheel truck under each end.

It's in the old Lindell Drop Forge plant. The car is back behind the buildings and I don't think you can see it without driving into the plant.

Here's a couple of photos of the cars on Reids Spur(that's the one on Logan). The build date on the depressed car is 1962, but the heavy-duty flat BD is 1980, still a few miles left. Also have a few other photos of the place if interested.

Ah, yes...I know where that is now. Gregg P and I walked back there last year and all the way to the end of the tracks in the woods.

Oh wow what a find, and I did not notice it until I seen the trucks.

The CNUR 511 is former NKP.

Looking through my NKP freight car diagrams book, put out long time ago by TLC Publishing, it shows to be one of two cars.

Here are the specs

Car #'s 2906 & 2908 250 Ton Depressed Flat.
Built by Greenville Steel Car Co.
Total length over coupler pulling faces is, 83'-10"
Had a as buil load limit of 510,000 lbs. and a light weight of 220,700 lbs.
Center of gravity =28", Max. Curve = 38 degrees.

Wow sure would be nice to see that thing end up at the Mad River & NKP.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I explored the Old Town area today for myself. Now that the snow is gone, the extent of the trackwork to be done can be seen.
A couple of the tower. That door sure looks irregulrly tall:

Aside from track, This has to be one of the bigger problems in Old Town and needs to be taken care of before the recycling place uses rail. However this Yaris would make a nice hood ornament for a GP9:

Rails to the recycling center.

Snow pile on the rails:

Old coal silos? Noticed some blankets attached on the othe side of the silos, someone may be living in them.

Some kind of monument?:

Don't be sorry, Nick. New commentary and photos are always appreciated. Just more stuff to compare once the tracks are rehabilitated. :-)

EDIT:

Not for long! Coming down pretty hard outside right now...maybe several inches today. :D
