Michigan Airline Railroad's Equipment For Sale

The Michigan Airline Railroad (Coe Rail) had recently cease their railroad operation this year. They have left Michigan for Florida. Most of their remaining equipment is up for sale and is still sitting at Walled Lake. Ozark Mountain Railcar Inc. is handling their equipment now.

Just recently, their two PRR Keystone coaches were sold, and were seen last over in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. The only other pieces I know that were sold off was PH&D #52 to Knoxville Locomotive Works, and DL&W coaches #4315-4317 were sold shorty afterwords. The remaining pieces of equipment can been seen at following websites.

Their plans have been finalized, the remaining piece of GTW's Michigan Airline Railroad route which went from Richmond-Pontiac-Jackson will be no more. The remaining porton which went Wixom-West Bloomfield is to become a "Rail To Trail".

As needed. I know 1 engineer is still on duty to work the company UNTIL the line is torn up. From what my understanding is the line will stay in place until all the equipment at Walled Lake is sold and removed from there. D739 though had been taking cuts of 4-5 CH's for them lately, so they might be picking up, too bad their service is bout to end. Old Hogger knows more than I though.

I'm kind of surprised the RR Museum of PA in Strasburg didn't pick up those remaining 3 Keystone cars. Especially since the fate of the rest of the train was the scrapyard, and the PRR is the only railroad which operated this unique style of equipment. Hopefully the other vintage passenger cars will find good homes, too. Thanks for the update on the equipment John, and although I can make an uneducated guess about that MILW car, I'll just be patient and wait for the news.

I wonder if American Plastic Toys would be interested in a transload operation from Lincoln Yard....if they're business is really picking up, it might be worth it if CSX gives them a good price.

What happened (if anything yet) to the blue/silver F unit (or was it an E?) that was sitting there. Very cool paint scheme on that old thing and I wish I could have seen it running.

What about the black switcher #1512? I am sure it is the one that is used to switch American Plastic Toys. It isn't listed for sale. Could it be heading to Florida? I posted a few days ago about the Florida purchase. I guess we'll have to just wait and see how this works out! Anyone have more info?

This is such a shame that everything is all coming to an end!

You guys say until the line is torn up, where is the STB filing for the abandonment of the line? I'm sure if they really tried they could get a lot of cars stored on that line east of walled lake to make some income and still serve the plastics plant.

I guessing Railmark have already filed their abandonment with the STB, but haven't made that offical yet. STB paperwork will probably take longer than most federal documents.

As far as I can see when it comes to abandonment, the protions between Ladd Rd in Walled Lake to Arrowhead Rd in W. Bloomfield will all be removed. This section also includes the large crossing at M-5, where the Michigan Star Clipper derailed last New Year's Eve.

American Plastics Inc. will have to make a choice either to continued getting shipments by rail from CSX or bring their materials in somewhere else by truck.

American Plastics Inc. will have to make a choice either to continued getting shipments by rail from CSX or bring their materials in somewhere else by truck.

For CSX to operate that track would vary. Although, D739 can use his caboose he normally takes and shove to American Plastics Inc. and then pull back onto the main in Wixom. With Coe Rail gone, CSX would make all the money. The question is how stable is the trackage to AP Inc.? Those rails are very old and GP38/40-2s are heavier than an F7 or SW1200 and can potentially "spread" the rails out. If the track needs to be redone, CSX would most likely let it go to hell unless trackwork comes out of the customer's "wallet" and not CSX. 3-5 cars a week (If it's even at that) is not worth redoing 1-2 miles of track.

A SW1500 which is what is used now for power weighs anywhere from 245-250,000lbs. A GP38 weighs from 250-260,000lbs. Also while you say the track would "roll" keep in mind that it still has to be kept up to standards for its class even if it is 10mph.
