This bard, since trains are scarce, has certainly become childish. Lots of garbage and no substinance.

(split these posts off of the muskegontrainguy thread about his train location and lights)

No "substance"? HA if you are talking about the board in general. If you're only refering to the "off subject chit chat babble" area where you were originally commenting, I still believe that's unwarranted. Sure, there's an overall lack of trains around Michigan, but the volume of useful information far outweighs the "fluff" type of posts that come across.
I hope Y@ is agreeing about there being some garbage, as his percentage of fluff posts are high compared to others on the board.(although getting better as of late)

Remember, the off subject area is off the train topic in general and expect posts to be what Norm refers to as "garbage." I try my best to keep the threads in all of the other sections on the train subject, and if they stray, the post gets moved to the off subject area and/or gets locked.

That being said, any suggestions on changing the board's appearance to visitors? The image I see has lots of good information about railfanning our region, while straying from the generic strict forum to show more of a community aspect. If that's not the appearance you see, please reply and give some examples/suggestions.

FYI, muskegontrainguy is on thin ice...

Most of the content of the board is relevant and topical. If I don't like something I move on. If I think it's not appropriate I contact Zack with a personal message and make my case. I think Zack and the moderators do a pretty decent job.

I'LL SECOND DON'S COMMENTS.

I SEE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BOARD AS IT IS BEING RUN.
THE CHAT ROOM IS A FUN PLACE MOST OF THE TIME AND I ENJOY READING AND POSTING THERE.
AS LONG AS THE POSTS STAY CLEAN AND CIVIL, I SAY LEAVE IT AS IS.
SAME FOR THE OFF SUBJECT AREA.

THE REST OF THE AREAS ARE BEING USED AS INTENDED FOR THE MOST PART. THE MODERATORS KEEP GOOD CONTROL OVER THEM.

OVERALL, I LIKE THIS PLACE AND GET A LOT OF LAUGHS HERE AS WELL AS GR8888888888888 PICS AND LOTS OF INFO.
NOW IF ZACK WOULD ONLY BANN THAT DON SIMON GUY.

No problem here. I think the site has a very good signal-to-noise ratio, and is well moderated by Zack and Co. Like Don, when a thread has gotten off into the weeds from my point of view, I simply stop reading it.

Ok, using the "view active topics" feature, I reviewed all of the posts since midnight and judged them against my own personal critera.

At the time I did this, there were 55 total posts. I thought 47 were "on topic" (85%) and 8 were "off topic/no value" (15%) relative to the thread they were posted in. This gives RRFan a solid "B" so far today from my perspective

Of course YMMV.

Yes, it's a slow day at work :D

First of all it's a board, not a bard, second of all it's substance not subtinance.

You may need a refresher course in the English language with an emphasis on vocabulary and spelling.

I generally find that weeding out people who have no basic understanding of the English language always helps improve the quality of a message board.

I was talking about the garbage.. lately there has been too much. I've been trying not to post as much "fluff" lately, but sometimes I must post the occasional "n00b" post to make fun of the lamers.

I agree with the others. This board is VERY well run, I can't say that enough. Zack is the ultimate admin and overall the board consists of a great group of people (aside from the fails, lamers, and overall "tools") and I'm glad to have met everyone I have on here.

There's just a few people we need to set straight, as well as a few who have run out of chances and shouldn't be tolerable anymore. But, this isn't my site, so that's up to Z. Just my personal opinion.

I'm rarely bored with this board. When I am, it is usually during times of little train activity or reporting. I enjoy reading most posts, and the same as Don and others, will ignore those threads which don't interest me. Zack, I appreciate the job you do and all the time you put into maintaining these forums. I only wish I could contribute more "relevant" posts more often!

I am sick of seeing less informed members or new members constantly ridiculed or given nick names for asking questions, some people do have disabilities guys, so if they ask questions or you do not understand the wording its not okay to instantly call them a fail or make them fell stupid. If this is going to turn into that type of forum and stay that way, I'll stay away and I will not donate any more of my money to it.

Sometimes...I don't like the amount of useless posts. I don't understand why people feel the need to post some random nonsense they stumbled upon on the internet. I'm not saying everything posted should be pertaining to trains and we have a forum for off-topic subjects and going through the first 10 posts there...here is some awesome stuff:

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15759
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15754
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15750
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15703

People think I have no life sitting here trolling on the board? What about the people who post that stuff? Where do they find it? Why do they find it? Why do they post it here? What's more is when a person posts a worthless message and they don't ever post a worth-while, train-related message. I mean, if your going to post a dumb message, atleast post a intelligent message to counter-act it! I'm not trying to single anyone out, and I'm sorry to those of whom I made an example of -- you should feel special I used you as an example! -- I love every person on this board equally and unconditionally. I'm just sayin...

There are a lot of good posts in the chit chat area as well. Maybe another hidden forum for "absolutely worthless posts"? OR...maybe I will write a synopsis of every Red Wings game to annoy everyone!

Don't really care about random posts, it gives me something to read at work, but when people are being made fun of for answering questions and the thread turns into more posts mocking them or posting photos of cartoon characters to mock them it gets old and tiring.
