Lights on Amtrak F40s

Unread post by ConrailDetroit »

When amtrak ran in push pull with a cab car leading and an F40 on the rear, did the F40 have any red lights on it? If it did then where was it located?

Amtrak F40's used to have a single red light between the numberboards above the cab. Never saw one lit, though.

The red strobe on the F40s and NPCUs between the numberlights will still light up if the air is dumped; it will remain on until it is recovered.

Usually it means the Emergancy Brake has been applied. That is when it was a F40.
This is my life. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

If this is a problem get used to it.

A great photographer can make a great photo out of any kind of light from any angle at any time, life is not a studio! There is no such thing as bad light.

Wow, Pete, if you hadn't said where that was, I would have guessed it right away. It's been a while since I've been in Royal Oak, but that looks SO familiar to me.

Royal Oak is the first place I ever railfanned. Back in the early '70s, I used to go to the bank with my dad on Saturday mornings, and after he was finished we'd watch for trains just a few blocks south of where I shot that Amtrak unit.
