Probably they would be using GP9's and GP38-2's.

I have had for a very long time, from GR to Cadillac, 3 deck N-scale. GR yard would be on the bottom and Cadillac yard would be on the top deck, because the real MIGN had a grade increase as it went North. It would have interchange with Chessie at GR, Reeds City, and the TSBY at Cadillac. I would put the old interchange tracks in at Howard City, but only use them for a team track or storage. I would mostly run on the main 1 RF16 (Bachman has a nice one in N) and 1 or 2 GP9's and have one RF16 bad-ordered at Cadillac. I would also use 1501 with the chopped nose in the yard at Cadillac with 2037 black with the gold Michigan Northern and the white MN. In GR I would use 1601 (MIGN paint not the gold/green it once was) to 1606 and rotate them onto main line service as needed or to spice things up.Sounds like someone has an idea for a model railroad in their head....
Precision 539 would be on hand at the Cadillac yard and or kept tied up at Hersey for the Reed City job with one of the TP&W 1608 or 1607.
I would have to set in the Summer 1980, because I hate snow (I know wrong state to live in). So that dose away with loads of snow-mobiles on flat cars, but I have plenty of passing traffic with Southern Pacific shipping from the UP. I would of course have very high traffic of wood, grains for all the small towns that have a grain feed stores, and lime from Pierson.
thats the just of it for now its all detailed and in my head where most models stay for a very long time
