The windows are boarded and the paint is peeling off the deteriorating bricks. The foundation is exposed, and the roof is in disrepair. Hardly a blade of grass grows through the ground that is covered with old cigarette packs, bottles, cans, and broken glass. However, the building is not going unused; a family of pigeons has made a home in a hole in the roof.

Train Wreck in Depot Town, 1926
From a period newspaper published in Italy, this is an artist’s conception of the famous derailment which took place in Depot Town, in 1926, at the corner of Cross and River Streets. The location of the section of building that was destroyed (which had previously been a candy shop) is currently the northern-most patio of the Sidetrack Restaurant.
Despite the artistic embellishments, the accident actually took place in the early morning hours, and there were reportedly no injuries.
