Re: Steam boiler explosions 1890
Post of the boiler failures noted in these book causes by poor feedwater (water used in boiler) used in the boiler. It was very dirty and baked to the fire tubes, the chemicals in the water cooked out and became solid matter in the which could not be blown blow out, if used at all, talked are fire tube boilers which which are the most dangerous kind of boiler. Basically feedwater was very low knowledge and was done by trail and error. The change over to water tube boiler boilers and improved knowledge and practice in feedwater treatment reduced most of the boiler failures to a safer level.
