A classmate posted these from a very old newspaper article about the March 1910 derailment near the town I grew up in when my grandparents were small children. Thought you might find them worth seeing.

Thank you for contributing the old photos.

A wrecker fan appreciates them.

Matt, let's just say I've been "multitasking" between building a Detached Garage workshop, and making progress on the roadbed for the railroad.

The wrecker was tossed back into storage abruptly when I relocated to the western side of the state two summers ago.

Attached photo taken from atop the garage late last fall.

Sub ballast extends just past a culvert tending toward the west or left in the photo.
I've got it nearly perfectly level with about an 8 degree gradual turn making for a very smooth, effortless trek for the 66-year-old Lima Switcher to move upon.

Despite world events, everything remains on schedule.
And because I'm an old hand at social distancing, (disappearing into a project for months at a time) I have plenty to keep me busy and away from people.
(People just get in my way anyway, so I've stayed away from them most of my life ; )

On somewhat of a pleasant note. Standing outside in the front yard last night, it was eerily quite beyond quiet.
It almost felt like I was in the Upper Peninsula with no road sound coming from a nearby M-Road.

Thanks for asking about the wrecker... and strive to keep your wits about you among all the other kinds of noise.

John

During earlier days on the Internet... (very early 2000's) I recall seeing a photo of an Ann Arbor crane
working a wreck somewhere in northern Michigan that looked very similar to the crane shown in these 1910 pictures.

There does not appear to be any record of the DT&I owning a Bucyrus wrecker. (They had Industrial Works wrecking cranes.)
I'm wondering if the crane shown in these old 1910 photos is a wrecker possibly borrowed from a different railroad.

Below is a URL to photos of Ann Arbor Railroad crane 3187.

Still poking around the Internet... but it sure looks like the wrecker in the 1910 DT&I photos is identical to AA wrecker 3187.

A 'New York Central Central' oval herald appears next to the door. It is not the Ann Arbor wreck crane

Very good observation Henry.

Perhaps a motivated Internet sleuth could/will figure out what New York Central wrecker may have been working that wreck back in 1910.

The Track they were running on until 1932 via lease from NYC or LS&MS, the NYC own the track, LS&MS operating assignment at that time.
