I took a trip on Amtrak back in 2009 took these two picture while going through I believe it was Jackson yard. Was just wondering are these engines still in service? Were the lease engines?

Both are GP40-2 (I don't know if they are the "L" version or regular). Railfans added a "W" because of the wide nose but CN didn't give them that designation. Most likely they are still in service somewhere if not on GDLK.

I would say this is definitely the east end of Botsford/Gearhart Yard in Kalamazoo, not Jackson. WAMX is Watco Railroad Companies’ reporting mark, the parent group of Grand Elk, which is what these locos are lettered for. Gearhart Yard is Grand Elk’s center of operation, and a lot of flat switching and train building takes place at the east end.

See this photo from the same location.
