Ludington Trackage during the early 1990s

Unread post by CAT345C »

I was looking at some old CSX paperwork that had customer and track codes on it from 1991. For Ludington there were numerous customers on the list that were off of the old Ludington and Northern. My question is, did CSX operate part of the old tracks up to Washington Street after the L&N closed its doors? One of the customers was the beer distributor on Washington Ave almost a mile up the old L&N.

I thought, perhaps mistakenly, that the division between CSX/L&N was north of where the branch left the CSX main.

The L&N had an engine she right along the main line in ludingtom yar near mp 136. As far as I have read they handled the traffic north of the engine shed.

According to the ICC valuation report of 1926, the L&N leased about two miles of "main line" from the Pere Marquette. Could it be that upon L&N's demise, the lease was terminated and the PM's successor then operated the remaining line?

C&O served at least one customer on the L&N, a factory or maybe a foundry about a half mile north of U.S. 10. I rode with the crew one time to spot a car there. Also , the Pandrol Jackson plant is just south of U.S. 10 near where the L&N joins the C&O.

Pandrol Jackson (or their corporate successor?) is still an active rail customer on the L&N spur. Are there any other customers at this time?

Shortly before Pandrol Jackson was merged into Harsco, one of their Stoneblowers is on the old L&N spur near US-10. How often does the Ludington Harsco plant ship outbound MofW equipment these days?
