MLS #10/ Ann Arbor #10
Does anybody know what happened to Maistique and Lake Superior #10? It went to Ann Arbor RR I know that much, but what happened to it after that is my wild guess. If somebody could please help me out I'd be thankful.

I believe all the AA S1's and 3's were scrapped in the mid 1980's. I don't recall that any were saved or sold to other railroads. #10 was unique because it was equipped in the late 1960's with MU capability and combined with one of the AA RS1's to handle the ore traffic that AA picked up from LS&I that averaged 40 cars per day.

M&LS #1, AA #10 still exists at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The State of Michigan sold it to a man from Grand Rapids in 1986, who donated it to the museum.
The Museum has repainted the S3 into Green Bay & Western colors, however.
It looked like this when it arrived: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3452943
See http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3280312 for its current paint job.

I actually found out that AA #10 was sold to a private gentleman in 1986 and he donated it to the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The locomotive was painted in CNW colors for awhile before being changed to Green Bay and Western.

It would appear that you two said essentially the same thing within a minute. Very impressive.

I believe I rode behind this engine last summer on their little ride around the property.

That would be cool. Maybe we can set up a UP Fan Trip to watch all four movements in the eastern UP.CAT345C wrote:Okay I gotta ask...are you a big MLS fan? I plan to ride the haywire this year on the ATV.

If anyone wants to join me on my ATV ride they are more than welcome. It is a designated state ORV route so any type of ORV can use the trail.
Here is a page with a short video and a map of the grade today.

I wish I could! Unfortunately I probably have neither the time to make the trip nor the trailer to haul my 3-wheeler. Guess I'll just have to stick to riding it on Linus' property in the middle of the night.CAT345C wrote:If anyone wants to join me on my ATV ride they are more than welcome. Mike, back in the 80s, a buddy of mine and I rode our ATVs on the old MC ROW between Lansing and Owosso. I doubt you could get away with doing that today though. Too much overgrowth and development.

You have an ATV, Don? Or are you going to be Mike's passenger on the back of his 4-wheeler?

I don't have an ATV but have access to one but not sure how to get it up there. I have some due-diligence to do before committing But I'd love to go!J T wrote:You have an ATV, Don? Or are you going to be Mike's passenger on the back of his 4-wheeler?

Due diligence? Riding an unfamiliar ATV through nearly empty wild lands miles from the nearest first responders and at least an hour from a hospital. What could go wrong?AARR wrote: I have some due-diligence to do before committing But I'd love to go!
Don't forget the bug spray (100% DEET preferred).

When I go riding I go prepared, first aid, repair parts, camera, two cell phones, GPS and water. I scouted much of the row last summer very very isolated area. Still had some kind if cell service though. When I figure out a date that I'm going to go I will share it invade anyone else wants to join. Route map says it's only 32ish miles to Wetmore but that was a long 32 in my car.

The ROW of the MLS is much shorter than the highway. The two cross several times between Manistique and Wetmore. Should be a great ride.
