Was @ Todd Cline's place flipping through a GT book and learned that the old girl "4913" Pulled the very last train #21 to Muskegon on Apr 30 1959. There is a photo of her in Durand on the last trip.

Aaron. You got a twin brother we don't know about?? When you think about it, most of the "Old Soo" became the Wisconsin Central, which was in turn purchased by the CN, which itself erased the GTW as an independant entity, so it has come full-circle, the Soo Geep is now from the same family as the GTW Geep. Funny how things turn out huh? Better have a beer on that thought.......

All the beer in the world won't erase what CN did to us Wisconsinites.....

In a way it's true, since at WC's startup in '87, the 2405 was leased from SOO to the WC as a switcher, and eventually returning home shortly after.

Phil, don't think for one minute that you "cheeseheads"( hey, I love some good Colby). over in Wisconsin were the only ones that got screwed by the Canadian invasion. Here in Battle Creek, the one time home of the Grand Trunk Western, there is almost NOTHING left... I feel your pain dude, we have lost hundreds of jobs here since the CN worm has invaded. Used to be that the GTW was the biggest employer in this town, what with the shops, division point, etc. Now it is next to nothing. I also find the newer power boring. It all looks the same and sounds like a big vacuum cleaner going by. I'd like to see four GP-9's heading up the hill out of town with 100 cars once again, but with CN, that ain't ever going to happen again.

I have met with the Godfather and have come up with this:

That's not a mirror. I've got both lenses!!!! I never thought I'd find another.

The Godfather has also spoken on the topic of Headlight Voltage.

Yes, The running system voltage IS 72 Volts.

AND YES the original Headlight voltage is 36 Volts. As it turns out there is a Headlight resistor with taps at several points of various voltages. High beam was 36 Volt. He also said that the newer units are a 72 Volt light but the old ones were 36V.

Again, RAILROADFAN.COM has been the RailLink to good things. Thank you again.
Was wondering about this (Headlight Voltage) again today, then remembered the info from the Marquette Rail Crew and GLLX. Thank You again.

I found the land owner and sure enough, His dad was a boilermaker that had worked for GT @ the Battle Creek Engine Facility and one day he brought home this High nose off a geep. It had been dragged around a used for several different things over the years and ended up in a heap of overgrown junk. That's when I found it.

Image

I bought it, and took it home. Now Im trying to fix it.
As it turns out:

GTW 4913
GP9, class GRG-17k, built by EMD in 1957
rebuilt to GPR9 4601 in 1989

GTW 4601
GPR9, class GR-417a
rebuilt from GP9 4913 in 1989
retired 6 January 2003; returned to lessor
shipped to Blacklands Railroad, Sulphur Springs TX

4601, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in January 1957, #22861, as Grand Trunk Western 4913, Class GRG-17k. It was rebuilt in 1971 without train heat and reclassified GR-17k. It was rebuilt at Battle Creek in April 1989 as 4601. It was retired on January 6, 2003, and sold as Blacklands 4601.

Image

I had to Rip the Sand tank out of the front to get to the damage on the nose.
I have more photos in the GTW GP9 4913 album.

Image

I would like to know if any one out there has any more photo's of 4913 of any era.

Thank you to flafiretwo for linking a realy cool photo to my album. Thank you.

I found this one online from the Deny Custer collection.
Image

Im also looking for a 4913 number board as one is broken and a marker lens.

Any leads would be greatley appriciated.
Any pics of the nose in 2014? Would love to see five years of progress!

2014 photos above. Unfortunately over the past 5 years the hood had become just another shed to put stuff in. I need to clean her up a bit. But the move went smooth as silk thanks to Jeff Roberts, "Great Lakes Track Works". Thank you Jeff for the professional operation.

I didn't look all the way down the thread. Why I don't know... Looks Sharp! Definitely something I would dream of having but will forever envy you because I will probably never get one.
