I am curious why the railroad crew is waiting while the cars are being unloaded.Michael wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 7:41 amDid you see this one from 1936 of Fingerle Lumber?

I didn’t realize that “just in time” delivery existed in 1936.

"Ladies and Gentlemen - arriving on track one..." Seriously, that could have been a whole lot worse - depot got lucky.Michael wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 5:51 pmA pretty good assortment of photos going back to the 1800's

While we’re on the subject here is an interesting website that I have found with a lot of great photos from the past including some AA photos that may or may not be in the excellent link provided by MIchael.
There is also a lot of great photos of steam locomotives from Michigan shortline and logging railroads as well as a host of other railroad photos.

There are at least a dozen photos of this train wreck from September 1940.Man o' War wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 1:46 pm"Ladies and Gentlemen - arriving on track one..." Seriously, that could have been a whole lot worse - depot got lucky.

Some show the building did suffer some damage like this one:

But worst of all, this one mentions that a 21 year old "mentally backwards" man admitted to causing the wreck!

Neato
Have always wondered what this facility was/is and its relation to the railroad.

Does anyone know if the old AA turntable is still back in the weeds behind the Big House? Any pics of its current state?

AFAIK it is gone. That area would be a nice place to walk sometime. I think there are still some yard tracks, ties and artifacts in those weeds.Erroneous Monk wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 10:23 amDoes anyone know if the old AA turntable is still back in the weeds behind the Big House? Interesting that the building has maintained its appearance for over 100 years now, probably one of the last industrial buildings left in the city.
Upon looking at the location on Google Maps (42°16'04.8"N 83°44'43.0"W) I believe I can see a bit of the metal table peaking out from the overgrowth. Doesn't look publicly accessible however. I wonder if that area along the tracks is still owned by the railroad.

Here is a nice aerial view of the Argo Dam area from 1954, back when the AARR & Central were still connected.
