As a youngster in the 80's who watched the news and read the Sunday paper, including the comics, I often had a hard time rationalizing why the man who drew the "Peanuts" comic strip was also continuously mentioned on the evening news as a ranking government official always talking about foreign policy.

Official means we have to exclude a few politicians over the years :D
I was surprised how long it took for Art's passing to make the local Detroit media.
Also didn't know that there were other official Bozos over the years.

Well there was certainly more than one. I'm guessing this guy probably wasn't the Bozo from the 60s. I have a newspaper article from the late 60s at home that interviews the Bozo at the time. I'll check it this evening to see what that guy's name was.

February 13 - Steve Scanes, Norfolk Southern engineer and proprietor of Steve's Hobbies in Blissfield, as well as previous hobby shops at a series of locations in metro Toledo. He previously owned and operated the train show regularly held at the Key Street Recreation Center in Maumee, and was a frequent vendor with a large number of tables at train shows around the Great Lakes area and beyond. He was 64.
