Smoking

Unread postby TSB » Fri Apr 12, 2019 12:36 am

I quit smoking on Oct.6, 1996.

Today I was diagnosed with lung cancer.

They lied to me.

Got my biopsy report back today.

Being diligent and pro-active do pay-off.

Stage 2B Squamous lung cancer.

Meet with surgeons in two days

Gonna beat this thing. Early stage gives me better than 50% chance.

Will lose the lower lobe of my left lung but, should be able to function (that means go fishing)

I'm posting this here because I have found it hard to talk too directly with family and I have to tell somebody.
I haven't even told my TSB or GTW friends

Scheduled for a robotic lobectomy using one of the da Vinci machines

Dr DuFrain says he is one of the best in the world. My kind of guy.

Going in between the 8th and 9th rib. They will NOT be spread. (They did that for my Thymic Carcinoma
in 2005 and it hurts like hell- long difficult recovery.)

Originally May 13th but some idiot backed out of his May 8th op. and I jumped at it. I can't understand
how some people let fear rule their lives (and maybe end them.)

Five small slits to insert camera and tools. Only 2 to 3 day say in hospital.

I'm getting prayers from Catholics, Methodist, Prespa..... and Jewish friends. Lost track of my Buddhist friend.
I believe in covering all bases.

I'm laying odds that you will be retired for many more years to come.
I saw them spread someones ribs on one of those medical reality tv shows a few years ago. I was in pain just watching it.

Yes, I'm praying for you Mr. TSB as I'm sure many are. And for those who don't pray I'm sure they're thinking of you and wishing you a successful outcome. You bring together a diverse group of people 8) .

You have a good chance of beating this. I would suggest taking lots of vitamins. No, vitamins do not cure cancer. But vitamins do support your immune system and keep it working at peak efficiency, during the various treatments. And most cancer treatments, surgery, chemo, radiation, etc, are an assault on the body and the immune system. And that is where vitamins come into play, especially when you have no appetite and are not eating properly. Best of luck to you.

Pathology was good. Lobectomy and wedge from upper lobe were malignant but 13 lymph nodes were "uninvolved."
No spreading outside the left lung.

Oncology today; no radiation but recommend four courses of chemo.

I have two weeks to decide on chemo. At this point, I lean toward no chemo. Wife and kids are for.

Chemo plays hell on diabetes, former heart attacks, kidneys, and liver.

I would be reluctant to do the chemo too TSB but I can certainly understand why your wife and kids are for it.

I have decided early to go ahead with chemotherapy.

Four courses of Gemzar and Cisplatin three weeks apart.

Going to be a strange time until October.

I hope it doesn't have a bad effect on Big Jim.
